Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

PortugalFREEZING WATER in the shower, NO LOCKERS, dorm is super hot, and it is very FAR from the village (approx 30 minutes or more walking unsafely on a highway where passing cars are driving fast).
Chilled place and nice kitchen and sitting area with big windows overlooking nature. There is enough space for cars and it’s easy to meet people. The kitchen seemed equipped and there is a fridge to store stuff,

Switzerland2nd day I was there, they closed 3 of the 4 bathrooms that exist, even if we were 7 people, probably to not have to clean them. After asking, they opened a secound one. Toilet paper run out. Nothing too bad, you just need to ask. For foreigners: ask for your IVA discount, as it got on my bill and you don't need to pay it.
Great value for money. It is one house with 3 rooms of dorms for 8 people each. It is located approx 5 km before Villa Cerro Castillo. So you need a car to get there. Kichtchen has all the basics you need. Rooms are a bit packed when full - no locker for your stuff - only a shelf. But nice guests to have a chat - so best option if you are traveling alone in Cerro Castillo and don't wanna pay like 100 USD for a full hut.

GermanyIt is a very spacious cottage. The heating is wood-burning, which makes it very comfortable. You can warm up quickly and enjoy the smell of the fire. The staff is very nice and helpful. Plenty of place for parking.

ItalyEquipment in the communal kitchen.
Convenient position along the Carretera Austral but set amongst the trees away from the road (which admittedly is not exactly very noisy with traffic...). Large picture windows gave on to the ñire forest. Large communal kitchen was great... apart from paucity of things to cook and cut with.

United StatesAccess to the communal kitchen (in the dorm building) was a mystery. We could see it, but the doors to the building were locked. Except, as I discovered, the sliding glass door at the back. But that door was three feet off the ground! I found a nearby bench, moved it over, and climbed up. Problem solved.
Clean, contemporary, comfortable, spacious room. Walk out the back door, and the mountain is right there. The road that accesses the trailhead for the iconic hike is just around the bend. Communal kitchen is fully equipped.

United StatesCould have a bit more tools/supplies in kitchen. As far as hostels, it is on the pricier side compared to others and a little out of town if you do not have a car.
Nice common area and great views of the mountains. Clean rooms and bathrooms and the staff was efficient.

NetherlandsIt’s a bit out of town, so you’ll need a car to get there. The 8-persons dorm would have been very (too) crowded if full.
New, clean, modern hostel with large shared kitchen with cosy fire. Great beds and warm showers.

Costa RicaThe service is terrible. The person in charge was not at the front desk for check-in (we arrived at 4pm). Instead, she was in her private room and greeted us in a bad way. The room was dirty, they were not ready for us at check-in (no towels/toilet paper), the towels had stains, and the hot water was not working. We asked for it to be checked and they said it was fine. However, it is not, since the gas heater has a defect and turns off after the water is turned on.

AustraliaNot clean at all and they were not ready for us at check-in (no towels/toilet paper. We had to ask specifically for it and luckily they were responsive). This was very disappointing as other reviews said this was a clean property. The only thing that was clean was the sheets. The bathrooms were dirty (visibly dirty toilet and floor and trash bins full), the kitchen had dirty cups in the sink and leftover food in the fridge, the floors had not been swept. To be fair, we had a replacement property manager come and apologise as the normal caretaker was sick, however this doesn’t change how dirty the place was and that we received no compensation for have to go buy bleach and clean the toilets before using them.
We liked the location not being right in the centre of town, but rather a 2 minute drive outside the town. The wood heating was lovely. The views were gorgeous.

United StatesIt wasn’t within walking distance to town but it was a five minute drive easy so really not a problem at all. Cash only unfortunately :/
We showed up 5 hours before check in and they graciously let us in. They were so kind and understanding. They gave our group of 6 our own room. The kitchen was lovely to cook and watch TV. The very sweet dogs were extra special :))
