The bed was comfy and the kitchen was well equipped. Good location.

The only window from our room was straight onto the patio which was for public use so if the hostel was busy, you would have to keep your curtains closed the whole time. It was a slightly strange dynamic with hosts having friends around to drink, it felt a bit awkward going down to use the kitchen and the host was watching TV with no volume and signs everyone saying silence so it felt a bit odd.

The owner was very attentive & helpful. The hostel is very clean, good location for city centre & bus terminals. The kitchen is big, clean & has every kitchen item you need. The owner will help you with suggestions for tours or how to get around by local bus.

    Beautiful house, nice room.

Weird, cliquey atmosphere at the house, minimal communication by the hosts, I wasn’t even greeted back when I left and felt unwelcome throughout. The rooms facing the terrace have no privacy - you either have no view or you risk someone sitting down right in front of your window. It’s too expensive for what you get.

    nothing really.

The room we had is located at the end of a small corridor. Poor internet reception. Room has no hot water nor TV (TV sits on top of a tall cupboard, you need a giraffe neck to see it). The owners have their friends and host parties pretty much every night. the noise (TV, music, screaming kids) goes on way past 11PM on a nightly basis. Do not believe the positive reviews, must be either from their friends or for another place. the accommodation in the current status is below mediocre. Do yourself a favour, go somewhere else.

The hostel was great! The host wasn’t overly chit chatty but was very nice! We arrived around 7.30am from Santiago and he let us check in really early! We were expecting to just drop our bags off but he took us straight to our room which was great after a long night bus! I also left some clothes behind on the balcony after they got wet, and he parcelled them up and put them on the next bus to Puerto Montt (where we had moved on to) before we left for the next place again! Amazingly happy! The hostel itself was just over a 10 minute walk from the bus terminals and main part of Pucon and less than a half hour from Playa Grande, which was great - not too far at all but far enough that the road is lovely and quiet other than a few dogs! The Kitchen is a great size and very well equipped and the downstairs area is always kept warm and feels very cosy and homely, as did the room. The room and private toilet and shower which (mostly) had warm-hot water, and a small heater was also provided in the room which was really useful after returning from a quick lake dip in cold Pucon! There is also a lovely shared balcony area with mountain views if you are lucky enough to get a nice evening - perfect for sitting out with dinner or drinks! Highly recommend Hostal Maitahue!

Occasionally had to wait a while for hot water in shower. But very minor compared to the greatness. Great price compared to other Pucon hostels as well!

    The balcony

Location is loud, wafer thin walls. You can hear neighbours stomping on the stairs and talking loudly. The only window faces a public balcony, so if you want privacy you have to keep the curtains shut all the time – which means you cannot see the mountain view that was advertised. No lampshades, only bare lightbulbs. Room doors are extremely wonky and dont give a secure feeling.
