How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe location of this hostel is perfectly located near the bus station and is a short walk to the rest of town. The host, Bill, is extremely knowledgable about Chile and Torres Del Paine National Park. It was a huge bonus that Bill is a native English speaker, so it was comfortable and easy for us gringos to get some useful information about the park. Bill recommended an alternative trail fork to take on the W trek and this was a highlight of our trip. We rented the ensuite room and it was large and spacious, which proved to be very useful for rearranging our bags for the W trek. Bill allowed us to store a small number of bags while we were on the trek. The breakfast is simple bread/biscuits, but the main star is the Calafate jam that we adored. We picked up a few jars for friends and family back home. Overall, had a great stay at Erratic Rock and would definitely stay here again.
We rented the ensuite bathroom room and the noise from the rest of the downstairs was a bit loud with folks using the kitchen and living room. All other rooms appeared to be upstairs and are most likely a bit quieter. Bring ear plugs (as you should in all hostels) and you'll be just fine.

Verified reviewAwesome old school feel, great host Bill and Chicana take chill to the next level. Knowledgeable about the town and the park. Very welcoming experience.
Older building very near the bus terminal for the early bus into Lake Amarga access point to Torres del Paine NP, maybe could use a new coat of paint in places. But, it does feel cozy and home away from home… the way it is.

Verified reviewEveryone is very nice and knowledgeable in case one is still looking for some hike or what to do in town. The room, bathroom and kitchen are clean and the breakfast is available from super early which is nice if you have an early tour. You can also use the kitchen to cook and store things in the fridge. The location is just a few minutes walking from the bus terminal and it’s easy to walk to the city center or supermarkets too. Would stay here anytime again.
gracias Laura....happy trails enjoy your travels!!

Verified reviewFantastic location, owner is super warm and friendly and helpful with information, you can find out everything you need to know and get great recommendations for equipment. Basic facilities, a little bit dated, but well maintained and I felt cosy and comfy here, and at ease as a solo female traveller. Thanks Bill and Susan!

Verified reviewBig room, clean, nice kitchen to use, lovely breakfast available also early in the morning (though just sweet, no cheese or similar), Bill was so nice and when we forgot our food in the fridge, he organised to bring it to the park for us!

Verified reviewThe host Bill :) And the house and the whole atmosphere in general. It’s very familiar and cosy. Small hostel, neat & today, comfy beds, sweet little brekkie, well organised kitchen. Bill was always up for a chat and helped us with all our questions about the region and its activities. He rents out hiking gear for a reasonable price. The bus terminal is only a stone’s throw away (walking distance). Would definitely come back here. Highly recommended!
Nothing we didn’t like in particular. Just bring ear plugs because the walls in Chilean house are not well soundproofed.

Verified reviewQuite straightforward and easy going approach for tourists using this as base to do trekking (can leave luggage at hostel whilst going into the national parks, breakfast laid out the night before for guests who have an early start etc). Hostel owner very knowledgable about the parks and the region, great source of information and advice.

Verified reviewErratic Rock was the highlight of our trip to Puerto Natales! My girlfriend and I stayed before and after a week’s hiking in Torres Del Paine. The owner Bill is amazing! So welcoming, warm and full of brilliant tips and help for our trip. The hostel is in a great location and really clean, warm and comfortable. Great kitchen to cook in too. We liked it so much we booked in to stay after our hike. A big highlight of our Patagonian trip and a big recommendation to stay!
