Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomLack of lift, but I completely understand why there isn’t one. Good exercise taking the suitcase upstairs but not for some people.
Beautiful old property with character in the heart of old Winterthur. Classic features, lovely views from the bedrooms and kitchen.

NetherlandsExcellent location near the city center - beautiful garden; very relaxing experience. This is an older building with quite some original features. Do not expect the very latest level of technological comfort - but you will find everything you need for a very pleasant stay.

CanadaOwners are very friendly. We were greeted with a warm welcome. Prior to our stay they informed us of the many options to get from the train station to their establishment which was incredible helpful. The room was a great size. Bathroom and room were very clean. There is no elevator so it is a few floors up by stairs but that was a non-issue as we were travelling with backpacks. Breakfast included was fabulous; self serve from a communal kitchen for all guests. It was always fully stocked including a variety of meats, cheeses, coffee/tea, yogurt, jams/honey, eggs, bread and orange juice. You also can enjoy quiet relaxation time in their beautiful garden area.

CanadaI have no recommendations for improvement. I was pleasantly surprised at the quaity of our stay.
This oasis in the middle of Winterthur was completely delightful, beatiful property with historical significance and within walking distance from train and buses. Close to the historic Old Town of Winterthur. Our hosts were wonderful, lots of knowledge of the area and very willing to share their knowldge if requested. Breakfast was great, all organic, and lots of room to dine. Added bonus; we stayed here at the end of our trip and it was just a short train ride from Zurich Airport for our return flight.

United StatesAs Americans we’re not used to not having a fan or AC on hot days. (We had the warmest day in Switzerland on our visit.)
Gorgeous and spacious rooms. Extremely clean. Bathroom is across the hall but just for us (no one else shared with us). The kitchen was perfect with many kinds of coffee to choose from. The refrigerator was stocked with all sorts of items to enjoy for breakfast.

Canada- bathroom not in the room, it's private but you have to leave your room to get to it - walls thin, if people in the room next to you talk or snore, you will hear it
- very friendly owner - nice property, big room - convenient full kitchen close to room - some breakfast items were high quality like the granola - 10 minute walk to central train station

SwitzerlandVilla Jakobsbrunnen is an oasis of calm, grace and human warmth - yet in the middle of the town and close to all public transport. As the name suggests, this was a former patrician house in the middle of a park full of trees and sculptures. In the summer, the park must be a wonderful place to stroll around and enjoy the surroundings - or to sit and enjoy a book. Right after passing through the gates, Nicole, a perfect hostess, greeted me in front of the villa. She took the time to guide me through the B&B set-up that made my stay comfortable. As I was travelling for work and had a conference call, Nicole accommodated my request to arrive an hour earlier than foreseen. She made sure that I was well-settled in and walk me through the simple steps to connect to the secure wifi. My spacious room - far bigger and taller than in modern buildings - was up two flights of stairs and down a wide corridor. An individual bathroom with a shower is just outside the room. The kitchen offers a well-filled fridge and cupboard for breakfast. There are even kitchen utensils for those who want to make a warm meal. The villa is located five minutes off the main road and the main pedestrian town centre with its shops and restaurants. For those using public transport, the villa is convenient to get to either on foot (a15-minute walk) or on a bus (a three-minute ride).

United StatesThe only thing that might be improved is directions or signs to the main entrance. Also, there are no elevators. Not a problem for me, but might be for others.
The hostess was absolutely wonderful -- so helpful and friendly. I loved the shared kitchen, which was nicely stocked for breakfast or snacking. I didn't realize the bathroom was also shared, but as only women were on "my floor", it worked out just fine! This is a lovely property, very serene and nostalgic.

SwitzerlandNo Air Conditioning available, which could be an issue in summer time. You get a big fan helping your sleep but it's very noisy. For me it was not a problem but I can imagine it being problematic for someone. Moreover, the rooms are in the 3rd floor and there is not elevator. Keep it in mind.
The location is amazing: an old villa right in the middle of a giant private park. You have the option to use the tables in the garden for working, eating or whatever. Very nice! The keyless access is great!
