How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

You booked at 21:30, and we immediately reached out to ask about your arrival time since it was already late, both via Booking.com messages and Whatsapp. We normally always wait for guests who confirm their arrival time — as many of our reviews show. That evening, we stayed at the property until 22:25, trying to reach you several times by phone, WhatsApp, and through Booking, but we didn’t get a reply. Our cameras show you arrived at 22:47, and your first message came at 22:50, when we had already left. Please understand that we are a family-run business: we work long hours, opening at 7:00 AM and closing at 10:00 PM and most of the nights even later, and still have to drive home afterwards. We always do our best to accommodate late arrivals, but timely communication is key and respectful towards everyone. We hope this helps clarify the situation, and we wish you safe and happy travels in the future. It is a pity we received a 1-star review, which impacts our daily work that we love doing for our guests, especially since in reality you did not even stay with us. The noise. The walls are made like from carton. Really difficult to get decent sleep.

Just didn’t like the fact that, although we booked the room with the bathroom, we had to stay in a room with a separate bathroom. Fine for one night but not what we had booked.

Verified reviewBreakfast was not included with the room, but I had a delicious, reasonably priced breakfast in the restaurant. Location: Safe neighborhood near the hospital my mother was staying in. I didn’t have a car so cannot comment on parking. The best part of the experience was the warmth and friendliness of the two brothers who ran the rentals and the restaurant! I felt well taken care of!
I couldn’t figure out where the entrance to the rooms was when I arrived—it was fortunate that the brothers were expecting me and one came outside of the restaurant and greeted me. I would have liked a bathroom in my room—but it was not too bad walking across the hall. The locks and keys were not the easiest, although they were cute. I meant to report that one of the door handles came off at one point. And I would have loved to have more wall hooks or towel racks in the bath.

Verified reviewGreat location not far from the city center. The room and bathroom were newly funrished. The owner Matteus was extremely friendly andn helpful. We had a nice breakfast in his café. The free parking is a great advantage of this place.
The only downside of this location is the absence of air conditioning in the room. The room can get very hot during the hot summer days and we could not leave the window open during night because our room was facing towards the street. But it did not spoil our stay at Matteus' place too much. We will stay there again if we come back to Lugano.

No AC and bad charging possibility

And we are not sure what you mean by “bad charging possibility”, there are plugs all over the room. Maybe you meant an adapter? No AC, keeping the windows open brings noise from the street. This is the only thing to be improved, the rest was perfect.

Verified reviewClose enough to the city center (15-20 min. walk). Very convenient the parking in front of the hotel.
Furniture very minimal. One or two chairs woulkd be usefull to put the clothes in the night. A bedside light should be added. There was not A/C in the room, so we had to sleep with the open window earing the noise from the street.
