How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe room was nice, BUT : 1. Check in is like a quest - takes forever, you have to fill up several pages, entrance to the room only after you scan, get the code, put the code - very inconvenient! 2. CHECK OUT IS AT 9 am!!! I don’t know if this is even legal, but 9 am is brutal! you’re supposed to rest in the hotel but at 9am housekeeping is already knocking your door to get out! 3. We booked 2 rooms, but received all these links/codes etc only for 1. I took us a while to figure out how to get into the other room. 4. We also booked large double bed and got 2 single ones even though the hotel was empty, so they could have been more attentive. I mean view is nice, but doesn’t worth all this!
Dear David, we are glad you enjoyed the room! Also Kudos to you - you did make the quest through the check-in form. We are sorry though that it did feel like this... We are trying our best to always keep it as simple as possible. Lastly, check-out time is at 11am this was an unfortunate error from our housekeeping. We have re-trained them and do hope that for your next stay with us you enjoy a sleep in till 11am... Feel free to also reach out direclty, in case you have more feedback. Kind regards, Management Grand Arosa Hotel

The pillows were way below standard, way too thin. At least have some extra pillows in place.

CarParking cost was too high
Dear Shantanu, Thank you for your feedback – we're glad you appreciated the quality and upkeep of the property! You're right about the parking: the spaces in front of the hotel are managed externally and can be pricey. We now recommend the nearby public garage just a few minutes away as a better-value option. Best regards, Sofia

old five star hotel feel, but actually also ok because good value for money!
Dear Strahl, Thank you for your kind feedback! We’re glad you enjoyed the spacious rooms, the free bowling alley, and the easy self check-in. As a pop-up hotel in a former five-star property, we aim to offer generous space and unique charm – at a fair price. It’s great to hear that this combination worked well for you. We’d be happy to welcome you again! All the best, The Grand Arosa Pop-up Team

Dear Ramon, Thank you for your feedback! We're glad you enjoyed the well-maintained hotel and central location. We do welcome guests for longer stays and workations – with special monthly rates starting at CHF 1,000. However, cooking on the balconies goes against our house rules. Thanks for flagging this – our on-site team will make sure it doesn’t happen again. Best regards, Sofia

Verified reviewThis hotel is a very cool experience, it’s an adventure in itself as you can explore all the different areas. There’s a kettle, tea bags and coffee machine at the bar in the foyer to make yourself tea/coffee any time you need, and multiple washing machines and dryers that are free to use on level 1. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom spacious with a good shower. There was also a bar fridge in the room. There’s lots of lovely areas to hang out on the ground floor, including a pool table and board games with views of the mountains. There’s also kids club area with toys and a ball pit. Although no staff physically present, any time I had questions they were quick to respond on WhatsApp.
The curtains could have been thicker to block the light better.
Good day! Thank you for your detailed and lovely review! We're so happy you enjoyed the Grand Arosa experience – from the self-service bar and laundry to the games, views, and our WhatsApp support. And yes, the morning light does sneak in a bit earlier than some might like 😉 Maybe a good excuse to come back in winter – when the days are shorter, the nights are longer, and the mountain mornings a little more gentle. Hope to see you again! Best, Sofia

Verified reviewThe room is very comfortable and clean, the view excellent.
Communication is really bad. There is no staff on site, just a chat bot to talk to. We had issues with our key and these were not solve, so we could basically not lock the room. Also, the breakfast was not available as the restaurant had closed permanently the day we arrived. We were not informed about that. After requesting it and various back and forth, we were sent the Arosa Card a few hours before the official check in time, so we could use it on the day, this should be done by default, receiving it at 16:00 (check in time) is useless.. A kettle in room would be nice..
Dear Victoria, thank you for your detailed feedback – we’re glad you enjoyed the comfort and the beautiful view from your room. We're truly sorry you were unlucky with the restaurant being closed on the very day of your arrival – and that we missed informing you in advance. Please feel free to reach out to us directly (ask for Sofia), so we can offer you a small voucher or refund as a gift for your next stay – now with breakfast available just across the street through our new partner. Regarding the Arosa Card: we fully understand your frustration. Unfortunately it can officially only be issued from 16:00, as per Arosa Tourism. A kettle is now available in the lobby area – thank you for the helpful suggestion. We’d love to welcome you back and show you the improvements we've made! Best regards, Sofia Ask ChatGPT

Verified reviewWhat an amazing experience! This was the most fabulous hotel room we have ever stayed in, and the pop-up meant it was affordable. The rooms and balcony were great, alpine views from some kind of fantasy and even a telescope. We didn't even know about the Observatory lounge with a pool table, games and a (baby) grand piano, and amazing view and the sound of cowbells, pretty perfect. You also get an Arosa Card which means the cable cars which you can see from the hotel, are free, along with the scenic railway, pedaloes on the lake and all sorts of other discounts (we did the high ropes course for CHF 8). It's such a shame that the hotel is due for a complete refurb, I really hope it just gets a gentle touch. The retro fittings with wood and marble galore could so easily be part of the appeal. Visit while you can!
Oh gosh, I really missed a kettle!! A morning cuppa on the balcony would have been delightful.
Dear Katy, Wow – thank you for such a lovely message! We're so happy you felt the magic of this place – the views, the space, the lounge, the telescope, the cowbells… exactly what we hoped to share through this pop-up. And yes – fingers crossed the charm stays in the future too! PS: A kettle has now found its way into the lobby – your morning cuppa awaits next time :) All the best, Sofia

Procedures to get in cumbersome. Outrageous security deposit. The man who operates the restaurant wanted to charge $6 for hot water so we could make our own coffee. Nothing extra in room. No water, no glasses.
Dear James, Thank you for your feedback. We’re glad you found the stay good value compared to others in the area. We’ve recently simplified the check-in process and, based on guest feedback, removed the security deposit entirely. The restaurant is currently closed, and we’re sorry for the confusion. There’s now a self-service coffee and tea station in the lobby for all guests to use freely. We appreciate your input and are working to improve the overall experience. Best regards, Sofia

Verified reviewIt's basically a five star hotel without staff. Which I found even better. I'm not sure what renovation they are referring to, the hotel looks good and there are no sign of construction works. The interior is like you are in a movie. It's a rare chance to have an opportunity to visit this hotel at such a price. And the location is also great. Carpe diem! As the prices go up in mid July when I wanted to go there once again. By the way, do not spend money on the parking right near, it's a complicated parking via web interface with high prices. 100m down the road there is a covered parking for 6 franks per day.
All was cool. Especially if you know you are coming to the unstaffed hotel and set right expectations.
Dear Alexander Thank you for your amazing feedback – we love how you captured the spirit of the place! You're absolutely right: it's a rare chance to stay in a former five-star hotel, full of character, at this kind of price. And yes – no renovation work happening yet, just quiet mountain air and a bit of movie magic. We also really appreciate your tip about the parking – the nearby public garage is definitely the better option. And just in case: our team is available 24/7 via WhatsApp if anything comes up. Hope to see you back before prices shift again – carpe diem indeed! Best regards, Sofia

No AC. Pull out sofabed had no sheets and the one in closet didn’t fit. 30 min uphill walk from train station, although there is a bus.
Dear Cory, Thanks for your feedback – we're glad you enjoyed the space, view, and layout. You're right: there's no A/C, as is common in Switzerland, and June was unusually hot – we hope the cool mountain air at night helped a bit. Sorry about the missing sofa bed sheets – next time, feel free to message us via WhatsApp (available 24/7) so we can fix it right away. And yes, the local bus is definitely the easier option from the station! Kind regards, Sofia
