How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewThe host was so friendly and made sure I had everything I needed. He helped me with my laundry and even walked me to the nearest ATM. The cat was very nice and comical, he loved the water tap! The apartment was exceptionally clean and it was in a very quite location, but also was not far from the main parts of the city! Easy to get to by public transport from the train station as well. I loved it and would recommend this place to anybody!

Verified reviewEverything was very clean. The cat is super cute and there is a supermarket and a bus right in front of the apartment building. Although the bus doesn’t run after 11pm I believe.
At night it’s quite tricky to get home so you need to walk (about 40 min from the mainstation). Also we were not aware that the host was living with us in the apartment which was a little awkward from time to time. (Checkout time was at 10 and he started cleaning at 8) also we felt that he didn’t quite enjoy having guests. So all in all pretty decent for the money we paid but be aware of these details.

Yes, at 8 in the morning I started cleaning… The balcony, the living room, my bedroom, my shower! 🤣🤣🤣 However night silence is from 23.00 to 06:00 which you obviously didn't respect! P.S. To be precise the buses run until 1am! If you read in the announcement it is very clear that I am about 2 km away from the central station! I don't understand your complaints and scores!

Verified reviewGian was extremely accommodating, despite us completely missing the check in time. The room was comfortable and clean, with plenty of storage and a safe. The flat overall was also comfortable and airy, though we didn't end up taking advantage of this much. And of course, the host went to heroic levels of effort to ensure we had a great stay - he really saved our whole trip. Also, lovely cat. 💜

If you carefully read the description of the ad you would have read that I live in the apartment and also a cat and that you were reserving a room with a shared bathroom (this means that you share the accommodation with another person). As well as we complain about the location! Also in the description of the announcement it clearly states that they are a 25-minute walk from the city center of Lugano. I wanted to answer you to point out that the reason for your sufficient review is not realistic! Good life.

Dear guest, well yes! From how it is clearly described in the rental announcement "Double room with shared bathroom" this meaning and it is understood that the apartment is shared with other people. As for the bathroom door, unfortunately it makes noise and to say that it is broken is perhaps a little exaggerated 😊 unfortunately the spare part has been ordered but it has not arrived yet. You're right, the door to the room isn't there but I can assure you that both the cat and I are honest people and we don't rob our guests 😊 For the rest of your evaluation I think it's subjective so I don't express myself! P.S. Just a tip the next time you happen to book a room to read the description well (You didn't even know that a cat lived inside the apartment!)

The location is a bit 50/50, if you take the flixbus to or from Lugano the place is really close by making it convenient. But if you are not, then the location is a very long walk away from the center. Also the place was quite expensive but all accommodation in Lugano is.

She privately asked me questions and I told her it was better to book at another facility, despite everything she decided to come and stay with me!
