How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe staff was excellent. They serve a breakfast it was very good as well. The Hotel location up the hill across from the train station. A ten minute walk give or take.
The hike up the hill. We're in our 60's and it took some effort.

Verified reviewThe location is great, you can see the the Eiger. I don't have a problem with the climb to the location because I didn't have a suitcase. Good breakfast. At night it was a bit strange because the alley is not lit but you get used to it. The breakfast was good. You can also take products from their fridge yourself in the lobby. I arrived at 9 pm and I had the key and instructions ready. The staff is very nice. The garden is beautiful. There are 2 chalets and I stayed in the second.
I requested a room with a mountain view a few months ago, but I got a room without a view. The room is dusty, I have allergies and I sneezed all night, I woke up from my sleep to sneeze. I have never had this happen before and this is the second year I have been traveling to Switzerland. The room also had cobwebs and I killed a spider. A minibar/fridge in the room would be good in the future

Verified reviewThe location! Sitting on our balcony staring over the roof tops to the sun hitting the Eiger...it was so peaceful. Also the staff was kind and courteous.
The only thing I would change is to upgrade the quality of the cutlery. It didn't match the lovely breakfast.

Verified reviewGreat location and views, as long as you are prepared for the walk uphill - but they do mention this in the details for the property. Room was very comfortable and clean. Breakfast was terrific and included as part of the booking.
Cold to luke warm shower one morning when we were up very early for sightseeing. The next morning when we got up later the water was hot. Grindelwald is an expensive town to stay in, but this accommodation was a reasonable price in comparison to other properties.

Verified reviewThe location is good but
We didn't sleep well for the whole two nights because it was so hot in our room! There was no net on the window so we couldn't open it or lots of Flys would come in. They gave us a small fan but it didn't help much and it felt like a sauna. It's definitely not worth the price tag.

Verified reviewFriendly staff in the morning. Good breakfast. Comfortable rooms.
Beware the steep climb to the hotel. Could be a problem if you are infirm or have heavy luggage.

Verified reviewThe breakfast was great and the room was clean. The staff were very helpful and responsive.
This isn't a negative as the hotel states on its website that getting to it is a bit of an uphill track. This is accurate.

Verified reviewThe view, the location, the cleanliness of the room, the amazing breakfast, the chalet atmosphere
There was no hot water, the fact that we couldn't take a hot shower was unacceptable

Verified reviewThe staff were lovely and allowed an early check in as our room was ready and packed a breakfast for us when we needed to leave early on the last day. The view from our balcony was amazing. We also enjoyed having some drinks in the common area.
A little fridge in the room would have been nice, and the water pressure and temperature control from the shower was terrible. One morning I had a luke warm shower. There definitely is a big steep walk to the hotel, but I guess this is a sacrifice for the views.

Location is on a hill which is a bit of a climb and exhausting with luggage

Verified reviewThe room was large and had a balcony that had an excellent view. The breakfast was good but not excellent
I would class this as between a hotel and a bed and breakfast. It had a self service bar which had some nice beers etc but perhaps overpriced as you might as well have bought some drinks from the supermarket and brought them back. Having said that I suppose it was a service they provided and I actually drank mostly at a place called "Base Camp" a really decent place for food and drink at a reasonable price for Switzerland.

Verified reviewWe absolutely loved this hotel-it’s in the most stunning place. We had a room with a balcony looking right up at the mountains-a fantastic view. The room was spacious and stylish too. Also the breakfast was great with plenty of choice.
There is a bit of a walk up to the property from the town-about 10 minutes. This didn’t bother us but might be a problem for some people.

Verified reviewThe location
Extremely basic facilities. No food or drink available after breakfast and no fridge to store your own food and drink. Breakfast was too late if you were booked on a early tour or activity so we had to miss it
