The room was a bit spartan (two twin beds along one wall and not much room for anything else), but we had seen pictures ahead of time, so we were not surprised. Everything was clean, however, and the history of the place and the nearby town was charming.

The breakfast was wonderful! We enjoyed fresh bread and cheese, boiled eggs including small black and white speckled eggs, delicious Birchermuesli, yogurt, and coffee. Everything was delicious!

There is not a lot of positive things I can say about the room. Unfortunately I didn´t have the the front part looking out over the castle, as I had expected (this happens if you are on the 4rth floor, check with the hotel, see images attached of the balcony area which I would have loved to stay in), but it is probably due to the type of room you book. The room itself need a renovation, and perhaps a simple peace of art to cheer it all up. If you are like me and you only have to sleep in the room, it is a great stay, however, if you also want to enjoy and relax in the room, I would book an upgrade or go somewhere else. The rooms are very noisy, so you need to watch out if you are sensitive to noise.

The castle and the location was definitely the best of the stay: the breakfast had fresh fruits, a variety of cheeses, fresh eggs, the BEST croissants, nice coffee and an option for yogurt. The castle had beautiful gardens to sit and read in, and the chapel was free and open to visit. If you take it upon yourself to enjoy the gardens and the Beautiful Location you will definitely have a nice stay. The staff was EXTREMELY friendly, thank you very much! There is sustainable soap in the showers, and the water pressure is low, also contributing to sustainability (not great if you have long hair though).

Deeply Disappointing Stay – Not Worth the Price We booked two rooms at Schloss Münchenweiler via Booking.com, attracted by the location, the promise of supporting cultural heritage, and the impression that this nonprofit property would offer a unique and memorable stay. I had even hoped it would be the perfect place to wake up on my birthday. Unfortunately, the experience was profoundly disappointing from start to finish. The single room reeked of sewage, and with reception already closed when we arrived around 4 p.m., there was no staff available to address the issue. The double room was scarcely better—cramped, with an uncomfortably short bed, and a so-called “bathroom” awkwardly squeezed into a closet space that no adult could reasonably use. Breakfast, far from salvaging the experience, only compounded the sense of neglect and indifference. When I raised my concerns at checkout and questioned the CHF 320 bill, I was told that the high price was due to Booking.com fees, and that as a guest, it was “reasonable” for me to cover part of those costs. This excuse is both illogical and insulting. The hotel voluntarily chooses to advertise on Booking.com, and without that visibility, many travelers—including myself—would never have even considered staying there. Passing the burden of their business expenses onto guests is indefensible. Schloss Münchenweiler markets itself as a nonprofit organization rather than a commercial business. Based on my stay, this is fortunate—because if judged by normal hospitality standards, it would not last long. Poor service, substandard rooms, and dismissive attitudes towards guests make this a place I cannot recommend under any circumstances.

Unfortunately, we faced issues that made us not appreciate the location nor the hotel to its value- a mistake in the room allocation (single instead of double), which was solved after a discussion and a call, and a very rude attitude upon request to have dinner on site for which the hotel apologised for. Hopefully, a one-off! And we had a great dinner in Morat instead.
