Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe female dorms were a little small, no space to store luggage in the room but we made do. Bunks moved a lot and were squeaky (I had a top bunk)
Great spot, easy access to the bus or a 15 minute walk to the centre of town. Breakfast in the morning was great. Dorms had a kitchen and toilets /showers were clean. Had to share toilets /showers with males which was fine.

Hong KongIt would be nice if each bunk had a power outlet for charging. The bunk beds are a bit unstable, and even a slight movement disturbs others. Located on a hillside, it's recommended to take the bus.
Great view. Friendly staff. Very clean.

FranceNot the hostel's responsibility but some other dorm users put their alarm at 4.30AM to pack their stuff, waking up everyone in the room 😅 The blanket is too warm for summer. The bus 122 is handy but it only runs until 6.44PM. If you miss it, you will have to walk along a steep path.
Simple breakfast that was more than enough to get going for the day: several types of bread, jams, spreads, fruits, hams, cheese, coffee and tea. The group bathrooms were clean and the shower was working well. The lounge/guest room was comfy. The dorm room had enough space.

United StatesThe lower bunk bed is practically on the floor. It was hard to get up. There is just one ceiling light in the room. I wish there were individual lights at each bed. The room we stayed in (2nd floor) was extremely hot at night with windows closed (the outside temp was ~20 Celsius so not that hot). We did not want to let the bugs in, so we kept the windows closed, and did not expect the insulation to be working so well :/ The next night we left the windows a bit open and it was much cooler.
Location is good. About 15 minutes to walk to the train station and coop. There is a 122 bus stop right at the hostel. The yard, ping pong table, hammocks, the view are all pretty amazing. My kids loved the owner's dog. Breakfast was good also.

SwitzerlandWalls were a bit thin so we could hear some noise from the corridor, but it was generally fine. As others have noted, it is located up a very steep hill, so the bus is a good option if you prefer not to walk.
Nice hostel in a beautiful location - very green and quiet with lovely mountain views. The rooms were simple but had everything we needed, bathrooms were clean and breakfast was nice. Staff were friend, communication was clear and overall we had a great say - a really good budget option in Grindelwald if you don't mind the walk/bus.

MauritiusThe noise from other guests as the walk through the hostel for shared bathroom and shared toilet. Do you own bed and bring the bag up and down stairs.
Very well situated, shared kitchen, breakfast provided and 10 mins to the train station via bus 122 and the bus stop is just infront of the hostel. Clean toilet, bathroom though shared and clean room. The view from Naturfreunde Hostel is very nice

United KingdomDorm beds old and shaky frames. Two toilets for two dorms (>10 people) is a bit little. Recommendation to change dorm bed frames, add personal plugs and add a curtain to each bed for privacy and to protect from the light

FranceClean, quiet, good view, friendly staff But the only problem is we went there by train and arrive hostel by bus but the bus go to the hostel finish at 6pm so if you have many baggage it’ll be a bit difficult but if not it would be a perfect place to stay because it not to far from the gare but you have to go uphill to the hostel And the bus stop is right in front of the hostel

United KingdomThe place was friendly and informal, perfect for the many hikers who stayed there. The views from the garden were beautiful. It's easy to get to with a bus from the centre of Grindelwald that is regular and frequent and stops right outside. Dinner was a barbecue, and breakfast was included in the price. My room was small, but functional and the guesthouse requirement to make and strip my own bed was expected. I loved staying there.

United KingdomThe beds are very squeaky and don’t seem very stable. Bathroom facilities weren’t very clean and toilets ran out of toilet paper quickly. Not very secure - anyone could walk in as the front door was not locked and the rooms were not lockable. The host was a little unfriendly.
The outdoor area is really great and has a lovely view. The bus stops right outside, which is convenient (at least until it stops running in the early evening). Mattress was comfortable.

The staff were friendly and treated us to a delicious home-cooked meal. The location is beautiful - having a beer in the sun in the garden looking up to the mountains was a particular highlight.
