How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.

Horrible experience. We arrived and the home was disgustingly filthy. There were crumbs on the floors, counters and furniture. There were dead bugs and th worst of all was that none of the bedding was changed from the previous guest or guests!! When I contacted the host he basically threatened me in a strong tone of voice! Hopefullyy booking.com will make it right and refund as we walked in and walked right out. We did not stay any longer besides to greet a cleaning woman that was sent over and verified everything I stated was true and accurate.
Hopefully, after you realize that Booking will not refund you, you will get a good lesson that this kind of behavior can not be accepted and therefore you will never repeat it again in the future.

Verified reviewIt is a beautiful and very spacious two storey flat with an amazing view. The flat has everything for a great holiday with a homely feel. The area is also beautiful with lovely walks and it is a walking distance to a bakery. We have received all information from the host in advance and the check in and check out process was stress free. We would love to return there is the future.

Verified reviewThe space and they have so many appliances, cleaning supplies, a lot of equipment and the bedding was great quality.
Some of the cutlery, glasses, and plates were dirty but I assume it wasn't checked between tourists and the last group didn't wash it correctly.

Verified reviewThe location and the view of the house is perfect. It was an extraordinary experience to stroll by the river next to the house in the morning and breathe in the fresh air of the Alps.
Unfortunately the landlord was very rude. He/she disturbed us by constantly texting us. Moreover, although he/she asked us not to take a shower and not to run the washing machine after 10 pm, when we came home (at 10.30pm) the washing machine was running on a three-hour program.

The owner entered into the apartment to run a washing machine in our absence. When we were back we had to enjoy our nice dinner in the cosy chalet … with the noise of the washing machine for 2h30 until 22h. I did not like it, found a bit disrespectful

Verified reviewThe chalet was easy to find, beside a busy main road, not far from a bus stop, 10 mins to train. Surrounded by fields, rural, local, nice view of the mountains, close to shop and cafe etc. There was plenty of room and the beds were comfortable.
I agreed to pay cash on arrival for a cot and extra guest. I had 5 messages and missed calls from the owner wanting me to pay into a bank account. I said that I would pay cash on arrival as agreed. I then had 6 messages and missed calls about my arrival time, even though I said it would be teatime on booking.com chat. Finally I had a message on our last day asking when we would be leaving. I think the agreed times stated for arriving and departing are sufficient. The owner sent a friend to collect the cash (first asking again for a bank transfer) and the friend was there to witness the state of the oven, which I had to clean before we could cook. It was in a very bad state, old grease, cake stuck to the racks and chips in the bottom drawer. The owner offered to send the cleaner but it was too late by then. The chalet was fine for a family holiday but needed a really good spring clean everywhere.

Verified reviewThe chalet has a lot of space and furniture and, except for the not working coffee maker, plenty of kitchenware was available.
Booking.com mentions 3 bathrooms with bath, actually there are only 2 bathrooms and 1 toilet room, and only the bathroom on the lower floor has a bath. The shower of the last mentioned bathroom felt down from the wall during our stay, hurting my wife. It seemed it was glued to the wall. It took me a day and lots of effort convincing the owner that we need an early repair of this shower, since we have only 2 bathrooms and 9 persons. We also missed the use of a coffeemaker that didn't work during the whole time of our stay.
