How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewClose to Algonquin Park. Convenient location for activities we planned.
Nothing.
Thank you so much; we are very happy that you enjoyed your stay with us and hope to see you again. Did you enjoy the route home that I suggested? The beach at Foy Property Provincial Park?

Verified reviewThis place is a hidden gem, we travel with our dog everywhere and they were so supportive and welcoming of him staying with us. They offered us dinner as well and joined them at their dinner table which was such a treat. It was delicious, the homemade bread was one of the best I have ever had, and the vegetables were home grown. The room and bed were incredibly comfortable. There were places to be cozy inside and outside with beautiful views everywhere, we will make a point of going back one day. We loved it!
Nothing it was perfect.
Thank you so much for your wonderful comments about your stay with us. It was lovely to meet all of you and we hope to see you again one day.

Verified reviewWe were treated royally by our hosts, Rick and Colleen. They welcomed us into their beautiful home, of which we had full run of the entire floor. Breakfast was over the top wonderful! The home itself was even more beautiful than we could have wished for, and with the colours of Fall right outside our window we were thoroughly captivated. We hope our hosts will come to visit us at our own home on some later date.
Nothing could have been made better on this stay.
Wow! Thank you so much for your wonderful comments Jim and Joanne; we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us- and we hope to see you again either here or at your place.

Verified reviewThis is a bed and breakfast in the traditional sense, in that the host cooks a breakfast for their guests. In this case, Rick, made for us a delicious meal according to our dietary preferences—and of course with his top-notch, now famous, sourdough bread toasted to perfection with local butter and homemade jams. Rick greeted us upon our arrival, and served his DELICIOUS rhubarb cake (I had a second piece). We had some time to play with the dogs, there’s a new dog, more of a puppy that is slightly vocally hesitant at first, but soon insists on playing fetch. The accommodations are great, bed was nice and firm with fresh comforters. Bathroom was spotless with an expansive walk-in shower. Towels were large and fluffy. It was also nice to chat with Colleen, Rick’s lovely wife, who works to support Rick’s B&B habit. 😁 In short, this is a place for people who love to travel and meet and interact with the locals.
That it’s not closer to where I live in Vermont.
Thank you so much for your wonderful review; it was a pleasure to meet you both!

Verified reviewThis beautiful house surrounded by fields and woods offers traditional hospitality; the room is cool and pleasant, with a lovely view, soft sheets and a comfortable bed, right beside a private bathroom that is exceptionally clean. The hosts are kind and warm. Their cooking is really exceptional; breakfast is abundant and delicious, and if you take them up on their offer to cook dinner for you, which I suggest you do, you will not be disappointed, as they are excellent cooks. Homemade bread, vegetables from the garden, delicious desserts...You are in their home, and that is part of the joy of this place; you will meet the dogs, go for a walk in the woods with Rick and trade recipes and stories. it is about meeting and sharing, and it is real privilege to be in their little corner of paradise for a day or two.
I loved everything about our stay; be warned however that you are staying in someone's house. This is not a traditional motel or hotel but a human experience, albeit a very luxurious one.

Not a big deal, but would be nice to be able to enter and exit on the lower floor, without walking through the rest of the house.

Verified reviewRemote location and the excellent food, both breakfast and evening meal.
We did not feel that the basement space was our own as there were occasions in the morning where windows and blinds were opened or closed that had nothing to do with us. It was a sort of invasion of the space we had paid for!
Thank you for the positive comments about our location and the quality of food enjoyed at Top of Algonquin. I sincerely apologize for coming downstairs however briefly, to open and then later close the two windows in the lounging area near the woodstove well outside our primary guest room while you were sleeping behind a closed bedroom door. I did so, thinking that you might enjoy some fresh morning air upon waking since the air conditioning had been running all night. I did not mean to 'invade your space' in any respect. Clearly I was wrong in this regard, and for that, I am sorry. I must, however, note that I made no statement that I would not enter the lower level during your stay with us. Your bedroom and the guest bath are absolutely exclusively yours, and I would not enter those rooms under any circumstances, However, the weight room, with secondary fridge is accessed via the the lounging area in the lower level and the wood stove is also located in that area. During the heating season, I must come into that area periodically to load the woodstove. In addition, my wife or I may make use of the weight room during a guest's stay with us or may need to retrieve something from the fridge. I am both surprised and disappointed by your overall rating of Top of Algonquin since it differs so very very much from virtually every other review we have received to date on this or any other platform. The bed and breakfast was very clean, neat and tidy. All facilities offered were available to you and well publicized on the Booking.com website. Staff accommodated your every wish, including carrying your bags in, and providing you with a cold drink of homemade iced tea while you enjoyed the front balcony for a couple of hours before dinner. An excellent dinner was provided which included a complimentary post dinner cocktail to celebrate Canada Day. Locationally, we are a mere 5 km off Highway 17 accessible via paved roads. Our location could hardly be considered 'remote' by any definition. We are located in a quiet, pastoral and well wooded setting. It is very quiet here. Finally, with respect to your low rating in the 'value for money' category, I defy you to find a more complete and comfortable traditional bed and breakfast at which to stay at the rate we charge for either accommodation (which includes a hearty breakfast) or dinner. I take great pride in providing our guests with an enjoyable,, relaxing and comfortable stay in our home for one or multiple nights. From my perspective, your expectations and my promise to deliver a great product at a fair price clearly diverge. For that, I am sorry. Perhaps staying at a traditional bed and breakfast is not the best idea for you. Enjoy the rest of your trip to Canada.

Verified reviewThe host were very nice, helpful and accommodating. The room and the bed were first class, just as the bathroom was spacious and clean. Its rural location was also enchanting and very relaxing.
There is a relative lack of privacy, as we could hear the home owners while we watched TV. There were two large dogs, very friendly though, but the smell of their wet skin was present in the house.
Hi Fabio. Thank you for your overall favourable review. I must take exception to your statement that there is a relative lack of privacy for guests at Top of Algonquin. You and Isabelle had exclusive use of the entire lower level of our home, including your own private bath adjacent to your room. That you may have heard minimal sound emanating from upstairs while you watched television is hardly a reason to suggest a lack of privacy in my opinion. By your own admission, you slept soundly, in peace and quiet, undisturbed by any noise from the main level of the house. Yes, there are dogs in the house. It has been particularly rainy in the past two days, so yes, you may have detected a very minor ‘wet dog smell’. Given our very public notice on our websites that there are dogs living here, again, I find this criticism to be invalid. I’m sorry if it caused you any concern. Our home will always include dogs; we have never heard a complaint about that from any other guest as Syd and Bernie are quiet, very friendly and extremely well mannered. All of our guests enjoy meeting our dogs.
