How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe room was so clean and cute with a beautiful view of the waterfront. The hotel is right across from the governors pub and eatery, which had amazing food and excellent live entertainment. The lady at the front desk was so nice and very accommodating.
The breakfast could’ve had more options, maybe some fruit and cream cheese for the bagels.

Verified reviewOur host Linda made us feel right at home and showed us where all the breakfast items were kept. It was an informal arrangement where one could serve oneself. She even slipped a printout of the weather report under our door and gave us hints for our daytrip to Louisbourg!!
The outside of the building does NOT do justice to the rather eclectic and beautiful interior spaces and rooms.
Thank you so much for your kind words, I greatly appreciate it. I hope our paths cross again some day. Cheers Linda

Verified reviewI enjoyed the Highland Village Museum in Iona, The Louisbourg Fortress, the Kennington Cove Beach, the cute cafe Spoondrift, and The Cabot Tour through Cabot Discovery Tours (because our guide, Frank, was exceptional). It's always interesting learning about a new place. The views in Cape Breton are breathtaking. The fish and lobster exquisite.
Do glad you enjoyed our little Island.

Verified reviewLocated close to boardwalk and downtown. Sufficient parking. Easy and convenient to walk to nearby shops. Room was very spacious.
Might be a bit more challenging for those with mobility issues. A few short flights of stairs to get to room

Verified reviewThe rooms were nice and clean and there was a kitchen available with coffee and snacks such as bagels, toast and cereal available 24/7.
Unfortunately this is not a location for a person with a physical disability. There is no elevator and all rooms require you to do stairs to get to them. There is no staff member on site at all times, just a phone number to call for a person who is on call. Parking was not great, you could park behind the building but it was very dark with no security cameras.

Verified reviewFantastic welcome from Linda who took the time to answer all questions. She even came over in that brutal heat to adjust the tv. The room was great, comfortable, clean, quite and stocked with all the required amenities. The downtown location was superb. I should add that the price point was exceptionally good when compared to local competitors.
Not much of anything I could call a negative experience.Fr

Verified reviewThe location is great. You can walk on the boardwalk, and the Governors pub down the street is excellent.
The tv didn't work properly. You had to turn it on manually. The air conditioner is very noisy. There was no coffee in the morning (need to make your own).

Verified reviewKind of a hidden gem in Sydney---looks like a very basic motel, but it's quite comfortable inside, nice decor, super-clean, and the owners are very nice. Right downtown too, so very convenient for exploring Sydney or as a way point to the ferry.
Thank you so much for your kind words, they are very much appreciated. I hope you get to return.

Verified reviewThe breakfast was AOK - a self-serve buffet with several options. This hotel is in downtown Sydney, close to the big violin, and to our choice of restaurant for Thanksgiving dinner when so many places were booked - the Lebanese Flower (just a short walk away).
Trying to connect with a live person when arranging our booking was difficult.
Sorry you had trouble getting in touch....however I am glad you enjoyed the rest of the area.

Verified reviewThe location was perfect, right on the Esplanade and very close to excellent local restaurants. Breakfast was very good, cereals, bagels, yoghurts, toast and jams/marmalades. Unlimited pod coffee VERY quiet rooms even though the property is on the main esplanade The Queen bed was very comfortable and the room was extremely clean. Both Bonnie and Linda were very welcoming and made sure that we had everything we needed
Too many stairs to climb with heavy luggage for two seniors. The car park needs resurfacing, the pot holes were HUGE !! The property could do with some TLC, it felt a little run-down
