How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewStaff , atmosphere, location , food , pub ,
We initially had a room over the pub that was quite small , we discussed this with the manager and she put us in a suite for an excellent price , which elevated our experience as I have a service dog amd the larger space was very welcome

Verified reviewFor boaters the fuel dock should open at 7 AM - not 10 AM. I had to go to Gorge Harvour and buy $1,200 fuel which is a missed opportunity.

No coffee available on site. The closest morning coffee is only available off site and not before 8 am.

Verified reviewIt is a heritage building, and the rooms reflect that. Tiny, thin walls, quite dated. However, the location, the grounds, and the lovely people on the desk made it an enjoyable stay.
We could hear our neighbour using the toilet! There was no complimentary coffee set up in the room, and really, there was no room for one.

Verified reviewBreakfast was not included, but the full kitchen was great. the location was lovely, being able to see the activities at the marina, and the ferry coming and going. The old feel ambiance was lovely, the decore in he lobby and dining room was beautiful and comforting!
The cabin we booked was supposed to have the ocean view but the huge trees in front of the Cabin obstructed the view. The stuff was very accomodating, and moved us to the main Lodge and our view was absolutely Lovely. The coffee table in the living room was covered with animal hair, and there were mouse traps under the kitchen cupboards, but the Inn is old, so to be expected. otherwise it was a nice getaway!

Verified reviewThe location was very good, the view exceptional and the cabin was handy to the Cortes ferry, Rebecca Spit, grocery shopping, food truck, coffee and desserts.
The cabin was disappointing and I felt it could have been cleaner. The bathroom floor was not up to standard and the shower curtain needs to be replaced. The windows in the entire cabin hadn't been washed in some time and really needed to have the cobwebs removed and given a good scrub inside and out; kitchen curtains need to be replaced. Although our stay was mid September, the dining room was closed for the season and the Pub only open for lunch and dinner until 7 P.M. with a limited menu. We paid 'summer' rental rate for this cabin and after spending a few days on the island and being disappointed, I feel it should have been the 'shoulder' rate. Not only were the amenities at Heriot Bay reduced but other venues on the island had closed for the season. The only option we had for dinner out was the pub. Had I been made aware of these closures at the time of booking, I would have changed the dates or booked something on Vancouver Island.

Verified reviewA beautiful old hotel situated on the water in a cute Harbour. The place is extremely well maintained. There is a wonderful display of flowers and a beautiful garden. The rooms are on the small size but that is to be expected in an historic building. This is more than compensated by the friendly staff and the location. I will make this an annual destination.
As I said the room was small but this was a minor issue.

Verified reviewI loved the location and the convenience of having a pub and restaurant attached to the hotel itself. Very friendly staff and a cute little cat.
The rooms were a little dated, it was difficult to get into the room because of how close the bed was to the door and bugs found their way in very easily.

Verified reviewThere was no breakfast option, not even a coffee maker in the room
Very tiny room, door to room and door to bathroom barely cleared the bed. Bed was a double bed, advertised on website as a a Double/Queen whatever that is. It was too small for two people to comfortably sleep. The bedcovers did not hang down on each side enough. Customer service was generally meh.
