How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe meal was exceptional in the morning. Old fashioned good cooking. We had a wonderful stay. Loved that Euston Street was only 10-25 minute walk to downtown and waterfront.

Verified reviewThis is a relatively new venture (2 mths) for this family and our stay was great. The family is very welcoming. Our room was spotless, bed very comfy. Location is less than 10 minutes to major street with shops and restaurants. Can't wait to come back. Thank you.

Check resulted in unexpected charges and one of the rooms key was missing so we had to wait for them to locate it.

Verified reviewVery clean and welcoming. It is within walking distance for just about anything. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room had more amenities than I anticipated (microwave, mini fridge, hair dryer to mention a few) Roku tv was a plus👍🏻 The “just out of the oven” chocolate chip cookies were a wonderful introduction..

The shower was small, the bed was hard for one of us. We needed instructions for the TV.

Verified reviewI loved the atmosphere, the girls were so friendly and attentive.. It was the best location as it is in the heart of downtown Charlotte Town, so we walked everywhere within a few mins.. Their breakfast omelette is delicious, the breakfast menu could use some sausage or ham or something meaty, which they told us they're starting tomorrow.. Overall, it’s an awesome place to stay, and the girls are the sweetest!!! I wish them luck with their future endeavours with the B&B..

Verified reviewThe property is old, charming and cozy. It’s certainly not for the modern taste, but if you’re into Knick knacks, paintings, wallpaper and old hardwood throughout, this place is super cool!! This property was located just minutes walk outside of the downtown area, meaning it was quiet at all hours, but not far from anything. The staff were incredibly welcoming, and really provided my partner and I the first glimpse of true east coast hospitality we were in search of. When we checked in, Urma and her daughter greeted us, asked if we needed help with bags, showed us to our room, and even provided us some fresh baked chocolate chip cookies! The breakfast was very tasty, and while there were only three options on the menu (Veg and Cheese Frittata, French Toast, or Eggs and Toast), the meal was supplemented by a yogurt parfait, and a fresh warmed biscuit with butter. What impressed me most was that on our way out - the owner actually asked us how we liked our time in Charlottetown, and at his inn. We gave him our feedback, as he told us his family recently acquired the business. He showed care to make improvements necessary to keep his establishment safe and comfortable, while also making sure it keeps its charming and classic feel. I strongly encourage visiting the Colonial Charm inn!!
The only perhaps drawback was just minor easy to fix things. Some of the finishes on our nightstands were incredibly worn, and the bathmat in our shower was getting a tad worse for ware. We notified the owners of these things during checkout, and they seemed interested in addressing the concerns.

Verified reviewStaff and location
very bad room, so old, the carpet is so old, the floor is so old, the desk too small, the chairs very old and not comfortable. the bed give noisy , the shower too small , I can't believe that I paid over 200$ for this bad room, that is not acceptable at all. the balcony net door is not closing properly so you have to keep the main door closed other wise the room will be full of mosquitoes. in short words is very bad and I am jot sure how you call this place a hotel.

The fact that the mattress was wrapped in a plastic protector under a very thin sheet proved to be very uncomfortable. We didn’t have a very good sleep.

Verified reviewLocation and breakfast was great, amenities were as promised on the website. Overall, we definitely got what we paid for. Staff was very friendly and welcoming.
On a side note, the name of the place did raise our eyebrows - romanticizing colonial history is not very helpful, especially when some of our travel group grew up in former colonies.

Verified reviewLives up to its name - it’s definitely charming. The breakfast was the best part of our stay, hands down! You can select your meal from a few options and it is cooked up with love. The lemon cake served before breakfast was our absolute fave! Delicious!
Beds were a bit too soft for me.
