Charming property with comfortable rooms, in a very good location. David, the owner, and Cherry, who works there, made us feel very welcome and gave us very good suggestions about things to see and do.

The location was great.. very nice rooms. We were there twice on this trip to Newfoundland. 2 nights at the beginning and 3 nights at the end. The breakfast was excellent. Parking was provided. The room on both occasions was exceptional. Sherry and David were both friendly and had lots of suggestions of things to do. We highly recommend it. Thanks. We hope to return.

Beautifully restored and well appointed property. Good location to walk to historic downtown and free parking pass! David is an excellent host and really helped us each day plan our activities so that we think we saw the best of the area in our three night stay. Self service breakfast buffet was perfect for us - fresh bananas each day were appreciated as we’ve been missing them on our travels.

Perfect location and quiet comfort in the heart of St. John's

Breakfast is quite simple and informal, so it feels a bit more like a guest house than a classic B&B, but this didn't bother us. It gave us the flexibility to eat breakfast when we wanted rather than on a schedule. The Postmaster's Bakery is also right around the corner for excellent food, coffee, and pastries when we needed to eat more. Bathroom is very small, but not a problem for us. I didn't care for the single ply, extra thin toilet paper in the bathroom as some other visitors shared. Everything else was wonderful.

The Balmoral house is perfectly located for easy walking distance to all attractions and activities in St. John's. It is about a 2-3 minute walk to "The Rooms" museum! The room was very clean and quiet with a comfortable bed, and we slept very well. The air conditioning during the summer heat wave was a huge plus. The owner, David, is very kind and hospitable, as well as his employee, Cherry, who was very sweet! The decor is classic Victorian and very pretty. We enjoyed our stay very much.

Given the luxurious nature of the Balmoral House, the breakfast, while decent, didn't quite match up. That said, the Postmaster's Bakery is less than a 5 minute walk away.

This was the splurge place for our trip. Based on the pictures and the previous reviews, I knew it would not disappoint. And it most certainly did not. Beautiful, clean and comfortable. There were times we did not want to leave the room! Nice location, in the city but just enough away. Very clean. Quiet. The Postmaster's Bakery is about a block away. Also, parking permits available for use - very nice!

In short, nothing. For us it was a bit of a splurge, but you get what you pay for.

This is a very quiet and mature B&B. It is in an old house, probably built in the years after the Great Fire of 1892 in St. John's, and has been lovingly restored by David, who came to Newfoundland in the very early 1990's. He is very happy to discuss the history of the house and the marvelous restoration work that he has performed. Breakfast is in the dining room on the main floor and is very much a "help yourself" arrangement, which we found to be a very homey affect. The kitchen is open during the day, so you can help yourself to tea, coffee, etc at any time. The room that we had, #1, was on the second floor and looked directly over the harbour and out the Narrows (the entrance to St. John's harbour). The room is big, with a very comfortable double bed, and a sitting area - delightfully relaxing. The bathroom was a nice size with a stand-up shower that had very good pressure and temperature control. Balmoral is situated very close to downtown without being "downtown". It is an easy 10 minute walk to the restaurants, shops and sights of historic Duckworth and Water Streets. In a nutshell, we loved our stay in Balmoral. It easily rivals some of the very nice B&Bs that we were fortunate to have visited when we lived in northern Europe. Thanks David.
