How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewThe experience was so horrible. When I booked the room I even told the owner that it will be our honeymoon. And she even congratulated me and thanked me for choosing derbyshire house but she never mentioned about the house rules or what it will be like when you stay in that house. When we arrived, me and my wife were asked to lower our voice to whisper and we were asked to finish our food at the dining area. We were not even allowed to bring anything to drink inside our room. And also, there are other people inside the house all men stared at me and my wife when we entered the house that made my wife felt more uncomfortable. Then as we were escorted in our room. We were told to stay quiet or else she will enter our room right away if we make any noise. Then room has a security device that although locked from the inside but still be accessed by enetering a code outside. And also the bed. It is the worst bed ever. It is almost as hard as concrete.

Sison Mark Rigor arrived at 10:16 p.m., and to celebrate your honeymoon, we prepared a small surprise by upgrading your booking from a shared-bathroom room to a private luxury suite at no extra cost. I even personally escorted you to the room upstairs. To maintain cleanliness, we kindly asked you to have your meal in the dining area rather than in the room, which has the original white carpet. Our quiet-time policy is in place to ensure all guests can rest well. Regarding your comment, I believe there may have been a misunderstanding — I would never enter a guest’s room without permission. The suite’s mattress is designed to provide excellent support, stability, and comfort, with a quiet, firm yet comfortable feel. I regret that this did not suit your personal preference.

The hosts occupied shared spaces, including the kitchen, and did not allow guests to use them. There was only one washroom for about ten people, and guests were discouraged from returning late at night, which made the stay uncomfortable.

The host was very friendly, flexible with the transfer to other bigger room . Every room was furnished and cleaned professionally. House smelled quite bad from some cooked food. Bed was very hard and pillow so thin as to be useless and I slept without a top sheet so slept under a comforter which I’m sure wasn’t washed with every new visitor. No TV in room. Bathroom had a small container labeled “Lost Hair” - wtf?
Hi kevin, as you said your landlord is a very nice person, helpful and cleans the room very well every day! We will replace the sterilized and washed bedding for each new visitor, and some fresh creases in your bedding will let you know that they are very clean and trustworthy. We also equipped the wardrobe with thin and thick pillows you can choose according to your needs. I'm sorry that the workers were laying the new wood floor in the living room on the day you checked in, now we have finished it all. You are welcome to come back again when you need to, just as quietly and comfortably as sleeping in your own home!

Verified reviewWe prepared our breakfast but Emily, the hostess, constantly prepared something extra or got something extra from her garden. She is a very warm person and looked after us. The house was spotless. She was constantly working in or around.
There was nothing we did not like. (We could not get the TV to work but we did not mind. Emily's husband, who could fix it, was out of the country. The shared bathroom was not a problem)

The property can't be approved for 3 people. The room size ( 15 square metres) is less than the standard Australian prison cell. It is impossible to share one bathroom with 3 rooms . For 240 AUD per night it is not fair to accommodate people

You are repeatedly appreciating the large blooming beautiful flowers in our front and backyard, and you and your family are full of praise for our environment! The area of the room we have truthful descriptions and real pictures on the website, and we even add extremely comfortable sofas for guests in the room. We hope all guests have the best check-in experience! You choose to stay in my house. You know that this is a homestay managed by a private landlord. In this place where flowers are in full bloom, it is private and quiet. There are more than 5-star standard clean and warm landlords to serve you at any time. Your order is just a room with two beds with a shared bathroom. You didn't even book our suite with an independent bathroom, so why do you ask us with the guarantee of the presidential suite? Many guests staying in our house are full of praise for their stay. The clean environment and warmth of the family give them a good experience and relaxation. Many guests choose to stay for the second time and the third time. I know that some people's hatred and malice have no reason. Your excellence, your efforts, your kindness and happiness are all original sins, that's all. I know that Australian prisons can stay for free, provide breakfast, lunch and dinner, and pay you a certain fee every week. Sorry, according to this standard, no hotel can meet your requirements. All our hotels are lower than the cell standards of your Australian prisons! There is absolutely no hotel that can meet your requirements, so go to prison next time!
