Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomCame here with some friends. Great location close to some nice local places and stuff to see. Room clean. Staff was super slow, not a very social hostel (even tho people were napping in the common area at all times) . our room had some funky windows that could not properly close. No real space for luggage or to hang anything. It felt like they opened yesterday.

NetherlandsNo soap provided in the bathroom, window led to common balcony where a lot of people were always hanging out in (noisy), staff was not knowledgeable when we asked for what to do in são paulo / where to eat or go for drinks around the hostel (they told us to check google maps...)
The location, filtered water in the kitchen, very clean room and barhroom, very comfy bed with plugs to charge the phone next to everyone's pillow. Big plus. Good wifi speed too and not far from metro

ChileAlthough the bed pods are awesome. My pillow was very old and uncomfortable. Plus, I could tell it wasn’t clean, it had this brown-ish color (it was white, so it was very visible). It had this weird smell. I had to spray it with perfume and still it had this odd smell. The comforter wasn’t clean either.
Very nice hostel, in a quiet neighborhood. Rooms have AC. Big kitchen and a nice dining/living area to chill and eat. It was the perfect spot to work remotely.

AustraliaThe air conditioning in the room I was in was grossly inadequate. One night in particular was impossible to sleep it was so hot.
It's a good hostel. Big kitchen. Big common areas with super comfy couches. Nice vibe really. Walking distance to many bars and restaurants of Vila Madalena.

Czech RepublicIt would be nice to have some curtains on the beds. A bit bigger lockers for the luggage would be nice too. In the living room there could be more working sockets suitable for use with laptop (those with 3 contacts)
Perfect location and friendly stuff

BrazilThe expectation I had towards the place was as bigger than what it was actually delivered. It’s a cheap hostel, so you’ll be okay for a night.
The location is the best, but there’s also a good atmosphere in general.

ItalyWhile the WiFi was excellent at reception and good in the living room, it was unfortunately non-existent in the bedroom. It would have been nice to have the convenience of using WiFi from the comfort of my bed, which I believe other travelers would appreciate as well.
I had an absolutely wonderful four-night stay at Viva Hostel Design. The hostel is located in the charming and safe Vila Madalena neighborhood, which added to the overall experience. The 15-minute walk to the metro station was convenient, and I found the metro to be both efficient and clean, making it easy to explore the rest of the city. When I wanted to get around more quickly, Uber was a great alternative—cheap and super convenient. The hostel itself is beautifully maintained with modern furnishings and fittings that give it a stylish yet comfortable vibe. The shared areas are spacious, well-designed, and perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring. What you see on booking.com is exactly what you get—the place is every bit as nice as it looks online! The rooms are thoughtfully designed with built-in beds that offer both privacy and noise reduction, which I really appreciated. Each bed comes with its own light and power outlet, making it easy to charge devices without disturbing anyone. The spacious lockers with internal power outlets are a great touch—just remember to bring your own padlock. The beds were clean and comfortable, and the bedding was of excellent quality. I also loved the shower; it was powerful, and the bathroom had everything I needed. Renting a towel from reception was a nice option, especially when I wanted a break from my travel microfibre towel. The staff were outstanding—friendly, helpful, and always willing to chat. They speak good English but were also incredibly supportive when I wanted to practice my Portuguese. A special shoutout to Victor, who went above and beyond to make my stay even better—such a kind and friendly person!

GermanyNot all volunteers working there spoke English. I believe the owner did not either. But everyone was caring and doing there best. Sao Paulo is a very hilly city, so is the neighborhood. The way to the next metro is possible by foot with heavy luggage, but for the one or the other challenging.
The kitchen is big and has everything you need. From there you can enter the open dining and living room. There is a big desk, if you want to surf the internet. There is an extra room with a television and a washing machine you can use for a reasonable price. But you can also just use the big sink in that washing room. The owner is there everyday. Many volunteers work there from Worldpackers.

FranceShared rooms are extremely noisy by design. Metallic lockers, metallic sliding door to the barthroom, no curtains, cheap and noisy doors were all producing extreme amounts of noise. The reception allows guests to check in and out at any time of the night and doesn't explain hostel rules so several nights we were woken up by people who checked in at 1am (turning on overhead lights, chatting and loudly unpacking) and checked out at 5am (again loudly and with the lights on). Also, the wifi doesn't work in the shared rooms.
Great location in a safe neighbourhood.
