Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomIf you’re travelling with large bags it was a real effort to get there as no ubers or taxis can get close. It wasn’t the cleanest and not enough signage to find the location (you rely on locals). Could be seen as an unsafe area. but we felt safe. unreal views
Breakfast was amazing. View was amazing. Two youngest sons were beautiful.

NetherlandsA bit tricky to navigate there and back to Central!
More of a one-of-a-kind experience than a mere stay at a pousada: amazing views of Rio and the Sugar Loaf and a chance to "live" in a favela for a few days. Not for the timid and entitled tourist, but a gem for the traveller.

CanadaI had an amazing time at this hostel for the past week, and am now extending the stay for two more weeks! Néia and her family are so sweet, and the place itself is beautiful, with an incredible view of the city and murals all over the walls. The bed is comfortable and the breakfast yummy. There's a place to wash and dry your clothes on the balcony, and it is nice to get in touch with basic skills like hand-washing clothes. I slept like a baby here and always had very interesting and complex dreams. Honestly, everything about the hostel is amazing! I can't recommend it enough.

Hong Kong>> The only thing need to remind is the uber only arrive at the gate, you need to walk 5 mins up hill path to the hostel, if you carry with huge luggage, it might be a bit hard. Other than that, everything is good to me. Especially, after I was robbed in Lapa area, I feel so safe to stay in this Favelinha.
>> Breakfast is so so great in this hostel, coz I love fruits. They provides few kinds of fruit per day, and having coffee, toast, milk, cheese, ham... etc. The staffs are so nice, you feel like you are living in local people's house. >> Sunrise view on the roof top is incredible !!! don't miss it if you planning to stay. >> Neighborhood are so friendly to us too.

United StatesThere was peeling paint in the dorm room and the mattresses and pillows were old and mildewy. Not good. Time for new ones, folks.
The hostel was pretty clean but I felt the dorm room had seen better days and could use a bit of a spruce up as well as a fresh coat of paint. The son of the manager, Gabriel, was amiable and did his best to keep the guests happy and entertained. The best part of the hostel, as everyone says, is the world class view from the terrace on the top floor of the building. In-Cre-Di-Ble. 💕 Be aware, especially if one has a heavy pack or suitcase. there is a bit of a walk to the hostel from where the bus/Uber/taxi drops off. Even though it is an under-10 minute walk, keep in mind, there is a steep hill up as well as down, which could be problematic for some. I didn't encounter any issues with anyone living in the favela and it seemed to be just as safe as every other reviewer has said. I recommend staying here (maybe in a private room?) as it really is an experience to "live" in a favela for some time - and Oh, What A View!

United KingdomThis is only a suggestion: a little mire attention needed in the rooms like a mirror in the bathroom or at least a shelf! More information to share with other guests like a book to write comments in about their experiences or recommendations in Rio. ( not for the Poussada). A little map if the Favelinha ? A little more local info?
Location of the Poussada was interesting and very quiet. Great view!

GermanyCouldnt stay longer :( (Water is not really hot, but it doesn't bother because of the climate in Rio)
Location and view is amazing! A little bit outside but to stay connected to the center is easy (Motor-Taxi, busses). Santa Teresa is very close. Nice and Safe neighborhood. Tiny stores all over the "Favela", all daily necessietes available. Nice area with bars and Restaurants in Santa Teresa close to the pousada (10-15 minutes walk). Very quite and a good place to calm down and relaxe, after encounter the wild City of rio! Recommendation: for a longer stay in Rio, use the quarter of botafogo first to do all the touristic sightseeing in south rio and than change to the pousada to relax and See a different side of this amazing city!
