How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewBeautiful poussada just under 10 mins from town. Loved the nature setting, the outdoor dining area, the constant sound of the waterfall, birds, frogs, etc. really special atmosphere. It was quiet and peaceful but we still met other guests in the common areas and made good friends, went on hikes together, etc. loved staying out in our patio area at night, reading or chatting. We extended our stay as it was so nice!
Showers could have been a little warmer! Also, not the pousada's fault, but there were parties in near by areas at night some times, with a bit of loud music, which was a shame if you were wanting a relaxing evening. But they didn't go on all night, and it wasn't every night.

Verified reviewBeautiful Pousada. Has absolutely everything you could want if looking for a cosy experience immersed in the jungle of Ilha Grande. For that reason it’s slightly further walk (only 5min) from the town but that’s a good thing. The owner and team are so nice. Lots of wildlife and lots of cats!

Verified reviewAlthough a little further away from the main town, the privacy and secluded feeling couldn’t be beat! Well equipped kitchen facilities with ample room for multiple guests. You could tell staff cared about the presentation of the property and it was well maintained daily.
Our bunk was a little unstable and would benefit from some additional support.

Verified reviewThe terrace is beautiful, would love to spend more time there. Every room has it's own hammock. Staff was nice.
Room is extremely basic, old and bed is not comfortable. Bathroom looks terrible and the toilet was making sounds throughout the night.

Verified reviewIncredible location, very relaxing.
Noise from the laundry upstairs at all hours. Rude staff. I only requested my room to be made up once during my stay of over a week (I don't need fresh sheets and towels everyday). The staff member took the sheet, but didn't replace it. It happened to be really cold that night, so I had an awful night's sleep. Staff members seem to prefer shouting their conversations from a distance with guests in the middle, including me taking some work calls. Really frustrating.

Verified reviewThe pousada is set in beautiful wild gardens with a stream you can hear trickling by. The bedroom was one of the nicest they have which was given to us as we were on honeymoon albeit with a wider group of friends too. The guy at reception was very helpful, arranged us transportation, spoke perfect english and was super responsive by text. There is a fridge in the room and the bed and pillows were comfy. You can use the communal kitchen area. The Terrace outside the room has a hammock and space to air laundry.
The room didn't smell great - like sewage. I mentioned this to the cleaner on arrival and she told me the room was clean. I agreed it was very clean, it was just a smell issue. It was quite overpowering making me gag. She was defensive and used google translate to tell me they had put flowers on the bed because its our honeymoon and that's just how the rooms smell. After this there was an unpleasant vibe from the cleaner which was quite uncomfortable. Its hard to be able to address legitimate issues if its met with that kind of response. The rooms are small so with two suitcases to open up its a struggle to move around. The location is also hard to get to if you have suitcases, as it's quite a way up a long hill. Its very dark at night in places. If mobility is an issue or you just want an easy walk to town then this isn't going to be ideal. We stayed here as our friends had already booked it, in hindsight it's a bit too rustic for our needs and preferences. But not so bad that we couldn't stay. If your looking for cheap and basic it'll do just fine!

Verified reviewNice setting in a tropical garden, next to a stream, where you can watch little (humming)birds fly by. There are 5 black cats on site and a communal space to relax in. Some rooms have hammocks in front. It's relatively quiet. Decent wifi.
We don't understand all the positive reviews, really .... In actuality the rooms are very basic and rustic, not at all like the photos posted. Our ' deluxe' room (also a misleading descriptionl) was very musty and had an unpleasant smell because of the strong humidity. Cleanliness could have been better. The bed was very hard and not comfortable. Not all staff was equally friendly either and no one spoke any English.
