it’s a beautiful building in a fantastic location and retains a type of calm that’s very difficult to find in Rio. This place felt like a second home to me for a few weeks, I will definitely be coming back. A special shout out to Andres who made me feel so welcome and who’s amazing energy is infectious!

The hostel is on a bit of a hill but was not too bad. Also, it is good to inform guests when booking that the different bunk levels have different rates.. It is not just first come, first serve. The bottom level has a higher cost and middle level medium rate, and top level 3rd bunk is the cheapest. Upon arrival, i was told that my booking was for the 3rd level. So I paid a little extra (5 Reals extra per night) for the middle bunk.

I would like to especially thank the staff Andres Messias and Eyleen Dubon for being extremely helpful in answering all my questions and attending to all my requests. I only speak English, and they went out of their way to help me.

The mattress was covered with impermeable material so that it was uncomfortable to sleep on it

The only downside, if we can define it like that, is the limited choice for breakfast. It gets kind of repetitive after a few days, but the kitchen is well equipped and there are two big fridges and a shelf where you can store your groceries, so if you get tired of the breakfast offered you can always make something on your own.

Highly recommended! The best hostel I've been so far! The position is really good, only 5min away to the famous Escadaria Selaròn and really close to the Lapa neighborhood. The hostel itself is very clean. The kitchen and bathrooms get cleaned everyday and the sheets provided are immaculate and smell really good. The best thing is the garden and generally speaking the common areas. Everyone here is really friendly and the staff courtesy is yet to be found in other places. They will do anything to make you comfortable and accomodate your needs. Special thanks go to Andres, thank you for having made me feel like at home❤️

Very friendly staff, clean facilities, dormitory beds have curtains and own light and plug, lockers for everyone in the rooms, plus air conditioning. Breakfast is included and for sure a big plus for this hostel: they serve tea, coffee, juice, bread, ham, cheese, jam, margarine, dulce de leche, granola and fruits.

Good location in such a lively neighbourhood, satisfying cleanliness and a simple decent breakfast makes Mambembe a nice worthy choice. But nothing of that beats the staff. The staff group is beyond any compliment. Absolutely friendly, respectful and genuinely supportive. These guys are just great! 😌👌

Mattresses are a bit thin. The area around the hostel is deserted at night and therefore not super safe. You’re kinda dependent on returning by Taxi/Uber at night

I loved the maze-like structure of the hostel, the quiet neighborhood and the great staff. Breakfast is perfect to connect with other guests. Be aware that the neighborhood is rather far from Copacabana / Ipanema, yet close to the nightlife district Lapa

Beautiful, dreamy building full of soul and good vibes. I felt relaxed from the moment I stepped inside. It’s a home away from home and I will return when I go back to Rio. The staff are lovely too.

One of the best hostels we've stayed in in Brazil! Staff were all helpful. Very comfortable beds and good rooms. Lots of communal areas. Vibe was lovely, helped by the free breakfast which was very good and gave an opportunity to chat and meet people.

Breakfast options could be improved, the fruit salad was quite soggy. The location was awkward as you had to climb a steep hill, and we were warned not to walk about at night as it could be unsafe.

Friendly staff who allowed us to check in early. Even though we had to share a bathroom with 2 other rooms it was kept clean and tidy. The overall vibes were good, there was a hammock in the outside area and a very chill black cat.

I never expected to enjoy my stay this much. I stayed there for a few nights and during that time, I met wonderful people, had a lot of fun, and Staff was amazing, the location of the hostel was perfect, and safety was not an issue (considering it was in Lapa). I'm definitely staying there if I go back to RJ.

Close to Cinelandia, to restaurants and bars. Nice, big house with hidden corners. Good breakfast.
