Bed was quite firm. Smokers took up the whole outdoor space (yes I get it’s a backpacking hostel but hard for non smokers especially in the mornings.)

Great vibe for couple and solo travelers alike. Super friendly staff that helped book activities and give recommendations for the island. Beautiful property, great kitchen!

Best hostel in ilha grande! Very affordable the staff were so kind, welcoming and informative. Beds were comfortable and had curtains. Spacious kitchen and multiple common areas. Was only meant to stay a few nights but ended up staying more as I loved it so much.

The dorms could use a bit of an upgrade to be more comfortable with individual lights, better curtains for privacy and the air system (windows and AC combined)

Super friendly staff, they create a great atmosphere and were always super helpful and supportive! Location is good too, just a few minutes walk from the main streets. Beds are solid, rooms hot ac, so all in all a great place to stay at !

I stayed at Balaio Hostel for two weeks, and it was an unforgettable experience! The staff are incredibly friendly, knowledgeable about the island, and go out of their way to make you feel welcome and included. The manager, with their big heart, adds a personal and caring touch that truly makes a difference. The atmosphere is laid-back and relaxed, but it can also be vibrant, especially at night. The hostel strikes a perfect balance between offering peaceful downtime—like lounging in a hammock with a book—and lively social experiences, such as group outings or nights out. Some evenings, the manager or staff even organize activities like beach trips, tours, or BBQ nights, making it easy to connect with others. The facilities are impressive, with a spacious, well-equipped open-air kitchen. While it’s charming and functional, guests should keep in mind it’s open to nature, so being too picky might dampen the experience. The hostel also provides filtered water, air-conditioning in the bedrooms, and lockable lockers, ensuring comfort and security for guests. Wi-Fi worked well, though the connection in my room was spotty. Cleanliness is a clear priority, thanks to the hardworking staff who consistently maintain the hostel's facilities and even went as far as scrubbing out a fridge during my stay. While not all guests excelled at cleaning up after themselves, the staff’s efforts more than compensated. Located about five minutes from the pier, the hostel sits on a quiet street with a peaceful ambiance. The courtyard offers stunning mountain views and is surrounded by lush greenery, adding to its serene vibe. It’s also incredibly safe—both the hostel and the island itself—so much so that guests often left their belongings around without worry. Balaio Hostel is a unique gem that perfectly combines comfort, community, and adventure. Highly recommended!

The staff was very welcoming and helpful. There were some activities organized to meet people. Location is perfect, just 2 minutes away from the center of vila do abraao. Bedroom were spacious and comfortable. And everything is cleaned everyday. Also you have all you need in the kitchen to cook. I would definitely recommend to anyone to stay there.

It was all good

I had a private room and really appreciated the space. It was quiet and comfortable. Small lamps, good mattress, good shower, lots of natural light. Having a water filter is important to me, and separating garbage. Roman the manager does it all so well. And welcoming to guests of all ages. I really appreciated that being the oldest guest most of the time.

Literally the only issue we had was that the bed was extremely uncomfortable (very firm) but this was a minor issue for an otherwise perfect stay.

Lovely hostel, great location and a really nice chilled out place to relax for a few days :) we stayed in a private room but it was still very sociable, the hammocks around the nightly campfire were great and the beer was relatively cheap! We really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely stay again.

Dorm of 8 is very spacious. Lovely garden with lots of plants and hammocks! Really friendly and welcoming people, we had a lot of fun. There is music and a good atmosphere but the music is switched off at 22:30 so you can sleep easily. Additional showers so you don’t have to wait. The kitchen has all the tools you need. Free drinks some nights :)

Had an amazing time in Ilha Grande and the Mambembe Hostel was a big part of it. Good vibe, lot of common areas, well equipped kitchen, crazy manager (in a positive way)
