Parking a bit tight and “rustic”. If your car is wide and big, you have a problem. However you can park on the street. It is quite safe that area.

Atmosphere of the place was incredible. Several nice spots where people could gather. Peaceful street, close to good bars and restaurants. The area is simple, nice and very close to the lagoon. I was in a private en suite room which was very nice and cozy. The staff was incredibly friendly.

Of all the hostels I stayed in for the last year, I would say this ranks as one of the top -- for the value, it really does meet a lot of great standards and exceeds standards of other hostels. This hostel feels like it once was a home, so there are not a TON of people all the time, like other hostels that get very dirty and loud quickly. Mama Africa seems to be the "just right" size of hostel. The check in process was very smooth as the host gave me all the details and answered all my questions. Very kind. (I even had a partial refund when I realized that I wasn't actually going to stay there the final night; I appreciated their approach and being amenable). The dorm room itself on the first floor had 7 beds (I hate having the very top one - 3rd bunk) so they kindly switched me once someone else left. There is one interior shower bathroom for this room, which I think is fine, though having other showers is probably more helpful. There is a hallway half-bath near reception. (just toilet). The room was kept at a very comfortable AC temp in the summer, but I get cold quickly so I asked for a blanket which they also accommodated. I thought the room was kept immaculately clean. I saw them clean it daily. The only thing I was maybe a bit confused by was what they were spraying ON the beds--- maybe some anti-bug spray, but I dont' really love chemicals where I rest my head. Anyway. I love that they have towels and sheets for everyone and it is clearly labeled and assigned. It's a very orderly process. Kitchen area was adequate. There is only one fridge for everyone. There is also a nice grill - it got used frequently because (yep, you guessed it, Argentinians). Enough utensils and stuff but I didn't really look for other appliances (I didn't use). Very walkable from here to Lagoa Concecaio and all the restaurants and places.

The only thing that I didn’t liked was the space in the bunk bed, was little difficult to sit, but its ok if you take the higher one. And this is not a big problem at all.

It’s a very calm place, and the staff was amazing — all very kind and good people. The hostel is very clean and organized. (They have a nice breakfast too).

Delicious well balanced breakfast with fresh fruit, coffee, bread which can be heated on a panini oven, cheese, meat, cake and eggs. Always ready from 7:30 to 10:30, with clean breathable cover over plate so no insects fly on your food. A nice ambiance of many different nationalities and great way to meet others.

Hosts were excellent. Although I don’t speak Spanish/portugese the owner Kari was so warm and welcoming! Breakfast was great, house was quiet and chill. Would recommend to anyone wanting to visit the beautiful island.

The beds were stacked three high meaning that there wasn't enough room to sit upright in the bed

Great breakfast and lovely staff. The breakfast was bread, eggs, cheese, ham, cereal and fruit with tea and coffee. On the day I checked out I had an early flight and the host made me breakfast to bring with me. There were curtains on all the beds and big lockers. It was also very clean.

Only thing would be if each bed had a lamp it would be even better but it wasn't a deal breaker for me.

Everything, the place was super clean the entire time and they are constantly cleaning throughout the day. The common space is very cosy and has a very homey feel. The staff especially Karina are all fantastic and always willing to help. It's a very peaceful space and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay there. The bathroom is very spacious and probably the cleanest I've seen in any hostel One of the best hostels I've stayed in Brazil

I think the hostel is a very good option for those who want to feel like at home. It is a big very cozy house, clean place with a nice decoration. The staff is really nice and careful. I felt very welcome there. My flight was late and Gabriel was patiently waited for me to check-in later in the night. The location is also good, close to local restaurants, cafeterias and stores. In a short walk you can be at the famous Lagoa das Rendeiras, or take a boat to Costa da Lagoa for traditional food or trakkings.

Nothing, however it wasn’t that social with the other guests (that’s probably more because we don’t speak Portuguese!).

The owners were a really nice couple, very friendly and welcoming. The house is more of a guest house rather than traditional ‘hostel’ and is decorated nicely and the rooms are to a high standard. Breakfast was homemade and tasty, great coffee and a different sweet treat and fruit each day and eggs. Location wise it is near a supermarket, bus stop and the start of the lagoon and around 20 mins by Uber to Praia Mole beach. It was a relaxing place to stay with nice music playing in the background. There is a small kitchen area for guests to cook in as well and you can do laundry if you request it.

The Hostel is run by a very nice family! They are very welcoming and helpful! Breakfast is good and fresh, the room is clean! I loved it and highly recommend it :)
