How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewIncredible bungalow. The location is beautiful and completely immersed in nature. Simple but with everything you need. There is a possibility to have dinner at the lodge. Breakfast is fresh and plenty. Hosts were amazing.
Just be aware of the accessibility, especially with luggage. It's a 15-20 min walk/climb from the port and main town of Ilha Grande. There is no restaurant/bar/etc in the direct surroundings so going out always involves the short hike from and to the lodge.

Verified reviewLocation in nature and Stefanie and Abraao (who look after the place)
Unfortunately this stay wasn’t what we expected and we can’t in good faith recommend that others stay here. We stayed in the double room, it’s not clear whether the ‘superior bungalow’ is still an option. Although the place was enjoyable because of its remote location in the jungle, it is in a worse condition than advertised. Furthermore, what isn’t advertised is that you share the space with a woman and her child who help cook and clean. While they are delightful - and in fact made our stay! - we think this should be made clear, especially as you have to walk through the shared kitchen to use the bathroom. The main reason for the bad review however has to be the host, William. From the get-go he was difficult and passive aggressive with us and made us feel uncomfortable throughout the whole stay. Not least because he argued with his staff in front of us which created a terrible atmosphere. Smaller details like soap by the sink bathroom were overlooked and the mosquito net continually fell down. Shame, as it sounds like this used to be a great place to stay. The hike up to the place is OK if you know what you’re signing up for- just make sure you bring good shoes and torches!!

Verified reviewNothing
If I could give zero stars, I would. This place is an absolute disgrace and should not even be listed on Booking. The access is simply impossible. I live in India and am used to rough conditions; I’m not a “princess” by any means, and I actually love hiking and outdoor adventures. However, the reality of this place is far worse than what’s described. The so-called “small path” or “short hike” is extremely minimized compared to the actual experience. The trail is muddy, swampy, and you have to climb rocks to get there. Even with just a backpack, it’s exhausting and nearly impossible. After such a long, tumultuous, and tiring climb, you’d at least expect to be rewarded with a beautiful place and a nice room to make it feel worth the effort. But that couldn’t be further from reality. What you find is a run-down, filthy, and completely disappointing location that looks nothing like the photos on Booking. On top of that, there is no food or dining option available. This means you’re forced to make a 20-30 minute hike down the treacherous trail just to find dinner. And once you’ve eaten, you then have to hike back up for another 20-30 minutes, often in complete darkness, as there is no lighting on the path. We had to walk through the jungle at night, relying solely on the flashlight from our phones. It was dangerous, irresponsible, and absolutely unacceptable. The room itself was dirty and poorly maintained. We had booked for two nights, but after one dreadful night, we decided to leave immediately. The place felt uncomfortable and unsafe. The breakfast was equally appalling: every single item was crawling with insects, from the eggs to the bread, brioche, and butter. It was utterly disgusting and completely unacceptable. To make matters worse, the host had organized a day of activities for us, which sounded promising, but they canceled it at the last minute because other guests had canceled. Why should we have to suffer because of other people’s decisions?
Dear Mr. Lilirose, after having carefully read your comment, I will respond briefly by providing some clarifications, but first let's start with the only point where I completely agree with you: you are not a princess, you are simply a capricious, badly brought up person. given the perfection of your English I am not going to confront you with the translation of the word jungle and the word lodge or the meaning of the place they designate when they are used together. the hiking trail that you describe has simply suffered the effects of the severe weather to which the island was subjected before, during and after your stay a simple click on the site meteo ilhha grande angra dos reis will suffice. if you live in india you can perfectly understand the monsoon watering this country. the degraded, dirty, disappointing and poorly maintained place that you discover after an absolutely apocalyptic walk in the middle of the jungle which turns into a twenty minute walk when you go back down to the village arouses the enthusiasm of many people who have stayed with us there again a simple click on the customer comments is enough. the appalling appearance of the breakfast crawling in the insects did not discourage you since you completely devoured it without gastric discomfort apparently. Concerning the cancellation of the boat trip with swimming, turtle watching and jungle walk with lunch stop at the seaside restaurant closed due to bad weather, you have simply suffered the vagaries of bad weather for which we are in no way responsible, you would agree. On the other hand, if you feel that you do not have to listen to the advice given to you regarding your luggage; not to have to suffer from the vagaries of the weather the immediate neighborhood of the jungle lodge does not have to suffer from your screams during your household scenes interspersed with matrimonial insults any more than our staff has to discover a room turned over the ground strewn with flowers as well as a broken lamppost. I thank you for your suggestion to provide the possibility for our customers who do not wish to go back down to the village the possibility of eating at the jungle lodge we will work on its realization these few points clarified it is with joy that we will welcome again in our establishment with my best feelings Srege Nicolas

Verified reviewAdventure of sleeping on open amid a nice rainforest.
Please note! The bungalow is not anymore in the shape it is shown on the photos, and the descriptions although trying to depict the adventurous nature of the accommodation are not accurate. The bed. Very small and me and my girlfriend who are of average size didn't sleep the first night at all due to it. The next night we were exhausted and then we managed to sleep half a night. Moreover, the mosquito net is already old and dirty. The hammock shown on the photo is not existing. Electricity. There has been no electricity during the 2 days we spent there. We learned that it is not an exception, but a permanent state where the island has electricity supply issues. Due to that, we had no warm water, the fridge was not working and we could not charge our phones which we needed for flashlights. My girlfriend caught a cold and we left one day earlier then planned without a refund. The breakfast. The breakfast was nowhere close to the breakfast shown on the photos. For 2 days we had two little spoons of butter and jam, a plane portion of scrambled eggs with little bread. and uncut mango and apple. The worst breakfast ever (np. please not that we are used to modest accommodations, but still, this was the worst). Overall. Terrible value for money. We were very disappointed and feel scammed. The maximum price this is worth is up to €50 per night.

Verified reviewThe location and adventure to get there were great. I loved the remote vibe and atmosphere. The host Carole was very friendly and genuinely a beautiful sole, she gave us good advise and spoke perfect English, her house keeper and cook prepared everything very well, and kept the place very clean, she speaks only Portuguese so a translate program was needed. Both dogs are calm and friendly, which also maked it special.
The accommodation is unique. It's kind of like glam-camping, especially if you stay in the Bungalow. We stayed at an unfortunate time where it really rained, downpoured for 24 hours, so we opted to move into the main house room for sake of not getting saturated each time going to the Bungalow, which is quite a steep climb through the garden.. careful not to slip Beds could be a bit more comfortable in size if you're small, no problem, but if you're tall, you may find it difficult Power outage was an issue, too. We had 2 nights without power. This seems to be a constant problem of the whole island, so be prepared to take back up power banks, and as with most Brasilien showers they are electric, no hot water. Maybe solar should be invested for the property to make it truly eco-friendly.

Verified reviewBeautiful hut in the middle of the jungle.
For the price set during the high season I expected a bit more. For example breakfast was quite limited, number of bread slices calculated per person. You can ask for more of course. By the time I got to the lodge I have travelled 2 months in Brazil, staying at various places for a range of prices. And hence had a certain expectation about a typical “Brazilian” breakfast. Also wifi was never working. Its a beautiful property but not a good value for money in my opinion.

Verified reviewIncredible stay in the jungle. We had a very lovely stay in the double room, enjoyed delicious breakfasts and dinners (tip - get a banana ice cream, it’s fantastic!). The host is super knowledgeable about Ilha Grande and even gave us great tips for our next stops in Brazil. She has extremely cute two dogs, which made our stay for sure the one we will never forget.
Wish we could stay a little bit longer

Verified reviewLocated in the rainforest and very much part of nature - and still only 20-30 minutes away from the main village. Great to wake up to the dawn chorus and see so many birds, butterflies and other animals. Carole very friendly and welcoming. Lovely breakfast in the morning.
Best to pack light as trek can be challenging as quite steep in places- but for what you gain in staying here it is worth it.

Verified reviewBeautiful experience in the jungle. The accommodation is comfortable and charming. It was lovely waking up by the sound of birds and the wind blowing through the trees. We stayed for two night before heading to the other side of the island. We underestimated how rural the island is and Carole was very helpful in making sure we got to the other side of the island. I will def recommend this place!
