How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe staff are super sweet. The breakfast is yummy with a home made cake everyday. The garden is well kept and very relaxing! The rooms are cleaned everyday, and they are cleaned very well. Our shower was very spacious. I loved the atmosphere.
We stayed in one of the chalets. Please don’t stay here if you have a sensitivity to mould- I think it might be an island wide issue, but our hut was mouldy. The wall next to our bed had mould marks and it felt really uncomfortable. I’ll be honest, it really made our stay unpleasant (I also had a cough that got worse staying there). We did not mention it to the (amazing!!) reception because the huts were cleaned to very high standards, so I am certain they were aware of the mould and it wasn’t just our hut. That being said, I think the hostel would benefit from cleaning with mould remover maybe once a month. Or maybe even consider refurbishing the huts entirely, I think they might be a bit too old now and ruined by humidity and mould (but I am not an expert).

Verified reviewBeautiful tropical garden area, good breakfast, clean and tidy, receptionist was very helpful and friendly, super places to hangout, kitchen available. Not far from town but away from all the hustle and bustle.
Then lockers are useless if you have a thin padlock. Some of the breakfast staff could be a bit more friendly in the morning, I felt like an intruder one day from the glares they gave me. Bathroom door was very noisy.

Verified reviewThe location was beautiful and the chalet was so cute. We liked feeling tucked away in the jungle. Breakfast was good. The staff were welcoming and helpful. Lots of friendly cats on the property
We loved it! Just be aware that it is a more rustic location, so you might encounter some creepy crawlies

Verified reviewGreat Hostel. Location was superb, away from the center of Illhe Grande. The walk is only 5-10 minutes from the pier. Great settings as just on the outskirts of town. Great atmosphere and staff were amazingly helpful. Highly recommend.

Verified reviewThe staff were all really helpful especially Marcella. She patiently explained things to us and provided us with lots of useful tips. Breakfast was decent, and the location is perfect - just 10 mins walk from the beach and you are there surrounded by lots of tropical plants.

Verified reviewLocated in the most gorgeous garden, this hostel is a great spot to stay at Ilha Grande. Expect a bit of a hike arriving with your luggage but once you’re there it’s more than worth the climb. And without luggage it’s really only a few minutes from town, whilst still being a tranquil environment. The owner Marcela is super friendly and can help you with any questions you may have. The breakfast is lovely and with the kitchen there you can easily cook some additional items you may like. We had a fabulous stay. Obrigada Marcela!

Verified reviewI loved the breakfast, common spaces, spacious rooms, comfy beds, cute cats, and well maintained plants everywhere. There’s even a koi fish pond. The staff were excellent and Edgar gave great advice on navigating the island.
All very good.

Verified reviewVery nice set-up with the little individual cabins. Lots of greenery around. On the edge of the town so very serene. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Because it's on the edge of the town, access is not the easiest. It's up on a small hill and there is no other way to get there but to walk. Also, there were many tiny ants in the room due to the natural setting.

Verified reviewComfortable bed and near to main bars/restaurants of town
The hostel was overrun by a French school group when we were there - they were everywhere and never seemed to leave! No vibe at all! Staff were not very friendly or helpful. Accommodation was ok but rooms were boiling hot during the day until a/c went on at night and bathrooms could be cleaner.

Verified reviewThe breakfast was amazing, as promised! I also chose this hostel based on the tranquil location, and it was perfect for spending the day lazing about in the hammock in the beautiful surroundings. Nice little kitchenette for making your own food.
The top bunk bed was not the easiest to get down from, and the beds were noisy when someone even just turned over at night.

Verified reviewBreakfast was DIVINE! all Brazilian fruits, lovely coffee, nice area for mingle with fellow travellers and my friend and I had separate "cabanas", Lord of the Rings style... it was super nice!
NOTHING! nothing to complain about it. I could suggest a few hangers in the room and that all.
