How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewThe hostel was very quiet, which made it feel boring and isolated. They deliberately keep the numbers low even when there is space in the hostel. Only one member of staff spoke English. So you would have to wait for him to come in order to ask questions. There was an older lady working here that was very rude and would regularly disrupt your sleep. I understand that it is a hostel ran by a church and you can feel this when you are there. The older lady acted like a nun and you don’t want this on your holiday. In Santa Teresa, taxis do not like coming that far because it is on a hill and has cobblestone streets which can damage their cars.

My entire team needed a day off. Knowing this, you came here. 2. Our team speaks English, Portuguese and Spanish. However, since it was a day off, no one could be forced to serve you. I had to stay to serve you, make your coffee and, with great effort, communicate through the translator. 3. We also don't like to be disturbed while we sleep. Unfortunately, you should have checked out at 10 am. Two hours after your check-out time, I went to check why you were still sleeping. You could barely talk to me and didn't want to leave at all. You were simply too tired from the party the day before and only left my hostel the next day. I'm sorry, but you didn't even have a reservation for 2 days. We didn't want to bother you at any time. We just did what was necessary. We hope to welcome you back during the season that we are open, so that we can make up for any misunderstandings.

Verified reviewVery beautiful architecture, clean rooms and facilities, uncomplicated booking process with no prepayment (not typical for Brazil), beautiful views , facilities to have healthy home cooked food for a good price (not just burgers and pizzas), safety and security, and the most important the wonderful and welcoming staff. If you come here expecting a big party hostel with a lot of alcohol and testosterone fueled action , you will be disappointed. If you come here for a peaceful place to relax and get some quiet time away from the crowds you will be very happy.
Transport connections could be better so it's not the best if you plan to do multiple trips in a single day. But one or two trips a day is not a problem.

1 bathroom for 6 girls is a bit inconvenient when you don’t have much time. I don’t recommend this place if you don’t travel well. The area is sketchy and some guests got threatened by a gun in front the hostel.(inside of the gate is no problem). If you can look after yourself and well traveled, I do recommend this hostel ! Staffs are nice, but some of them tends to prioritise themselves over guests. They could have a guest-first attitude as a professional in a hospitality industry.
Thank you for the feedback Nana. First of all, no one was threatened in front of the hostel. Second, this is a hostel, not a hotel. Unlike all other hostels, here you have a private bathroom to share with only 5 people, whereas in other hostels you would have to share it with all the other girls staying there. It is not the hostel's problem that you are in a hurry. Regarding our staff, we are very sorry that you have not had good experiences, you probably were not a respectful and friendly person with them, because if you take a look at our reviews you will see that our staff is professional, attentive and goes above and beyond to make people comfortable.

Verified reviewThis property is beautiful. The grounds are kept clean all through the day and night. With a lovely pool to enjoy and great communal areas. The staff couldn’t be nicer! So a huge shout out to them. They provided even more than I could’ve asked for. With meals to purchase while you stay and clean towns and sheets too. Breakfast was delicious and always on time. I love this place !
The location is something to be weary of. This isn’t due to anything the hostel does because the security is pretty good. Just be aware that it can be dangerous on your own and at night time, but uber is easily accessible.

Verified reviewThe property is immaculately clean, beautiful, quiet, has a nice TV room and pool. They do the laundry for you for a fee. Staff is kind and solicitous.
Breakfast could use some improvement. Maybe add eggs, more options of fruit and bread. Common use kitchen is outside the building, which is s bit inconvenient if you need a midnight snack or if it’s raining. And I would prefer guests were allowed to drink on the property.

Verified reviewJust wow ! Everything was perfect ! The house is beautiful the staff is soooo nice and the view from up there is amazing ! Totally would recommend this place if you want to chill after a day in the craziness of copacabana ! 😊 I loved my stay there ! And yes uber Motobike , Uber X and yellow taxi do go there so that was not a problem for me just show them the adress ! At breakfast they always put little details that show that they can and they want for you to be right at home 🏠

Verified reviewOne of the best hostel I’ve ever stayed! The place is incredible and clean, the staff is so kind and makes you feel like home, and even better than that. The swimming pool and the private mountain with the amazing view on Rio are the cherries on the top. I highly recommend it!
