Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

ChinaWe absolutely loved our stay at Villa Emma. The surroundings are peaceful and picturesque, offering a perfect retreat. What amazed us was the convenience—it took us only about ten minutes to get to the downtown area by bus. Best of all, the host was exceptional. They were so welcoming and attentive, giving us great local tips and making sure we had everything we needed. We felt truly well taken care of.

LuxembourgThe rooms felt quite cold at night (the heating turns off automatically, as we heard from the hosts). This would not have been an issue for me and my husband as we stayed well covered under the duvet but this was not possible to control for our 2-year-old son. He already had a bit of a cold when we arrived at the property and the low temperature in his room made things worse. I believe the hosts would have accommodated if I had let them know in advance, unfortunately I realised the issue too late.
Lovely stay with lots of personal touches from the hosts i.e. candy left on our pillows, superb breakfast presented beautifully, our room was incredibly well-equipped with a super complete minibar and everything else we could possibly need, we also loved the books/pens provided to keep our toddler busy! This really felt like being 'at home' :-)

United KingdomNothing.
The house is a fabulous late Victorian era (in the UK it would be, I don't know what era that is in Belgium!?!) villa set in beautiful grounds. We had the Acacia room, it was lovely and clean and nicely decorated, with a sitting area with a couple of armchairs and a separate bedroom off this with a spiral staircase up to the ensuite. The double bed was big, (super kingsize I think), and there was a single bed on a mezzanine in the turret above the sitting area which is fun, but a little precarious to climb up, so not suitable for very young kids or elderly people. Georges and Hilda are lovely hosts and the breakfasts were fantastic, homemade bread, apple pie, yoghurt, pastries, cheese, charcuterie, eggs, bacon - we didn't need lunch. Hilda explained the buses, and it was easy to get in to the center of Ghent and back, on the no.10 bus from a nearby bus stop. It was a lovely peaceful location and the garden was beautiful with plenty of wildlife to watch - brown squirrels, ducks and birds.

United StatesThere is nothing not to like about this property. Our rooms were on the third floor but the hosts even helped us carry our luggage upstairs so it was not a drawback at all! The room was a little warm the first night, but the host showed us the controls and we cranked it down and it was fine the second night. These were not draw-backs - only observations. This is a fabulous stay!
What is not to like about this property? The building itself is historic and absolutely charming. The rooms were spacious and clean and efficient. The bathroom was large and updated upstairs with a soaking tub. There was also a bathroom one floor below with a shower. It was nice to have access to two bathrooms for our party of 3. The breakfast was phenomenal in presentation and quality - like a 3-course meal. But the absolute best thing about this property was the charming hosts. They could not have been more accommodating, more delightful, and more helpful. Great convenient parking as well! Easy drive to fabulous Ghent - one of our favorite stops on this trip!

United KingdomOn the basis that the description said it has a refrigerator we had brought some food items which needed to be kept cold but there was only a well stocked minibar which we had to empty items out of first. It also says electric kettle but in fact it was a Lavazza machine with a hot water spout. Beyond an arrival gift pack with one tea bag and one coffee pod you are expected to purchase additional items which seems a bit unusual. But otherwise everything was very thoughtful. The apartment is on the second floor up four flights of quite steep stairs – they owner kindly carried our luggage up – but you do need to be aware if you have difficulty with stairs.
A very attentive B&B in a lovely period property with a beautiful garden. We were warmly greeted and given lots of information about Gent plus offered bus tickets for the local service. There was plenty of parking which felt safe and secure to leave items in the car. We had apartment Tilia which is very spacious with a huge bed plus another room with bunk beds if you had a family. The bathroom is also large and bright and very well appointed with everything thought of. There are big windows and plenty of natural light. Breakfast was largely homemade and prepared lovingly with lots of nice ideas. There were local cold meats and cheeses and a hot option as well. The B&B is about 15 minutes from the old centre by bus no 10, an easy journey. We arrived on a Monday night and walked out to find a restaurant but they were all closed on Mondays! There is a Proxy supermarket 10 minutes walk away with a good selection of takeaway food (although a lot of it needs warming up) so we had a nice picnic in the lovely garden.

It was a beautiful building with lots of character, the room was clean and the bed was very comfortable and in a great location as it is only a 10 minute bus ride from the centre of town.
