Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

New ZealandI could see a pile of dust under the bed so the floor there could've done with a vacuum and mop. That one thing aside, it's a gorgeous old place packed with charm. If you're reading this, you should stay there.
I really enjoyed my stay here, and would stay again. There's a bus/tram stop very close on the street, lovely and helpful host, nice view of the street out the window, quite a nice charming old building. The internet speed was good enough for work, video calls, or streaming. Convenient shared kitchen space in the hall outside the rooms has everything you need if you want to cook a basic meal there, fridge, microwave, free coffee and tea, cooking oil, seasonings, plenty of whiteware, cutlery, utensils, etc. The owner couldn't meet me on the first day at check-in time so made sure a friend was there instead, and both of them were totally lovely with great suggestions for exploring the city! I could check-in early at 1:30pm which I really appreciated.

BrazilGoing up three flights of stairs with heavy luggage wasn't the best experience, but it was fine considering that it was an old family house. Additionally, the walls in the room could have been cleaned more thoroughly. There were cob webs in the corners of the room. However, this was all very excusable, since the rest of the room (floor, bed, and furniture) was squeaky clean and had adorable decorations.
It was warm, cozy, and had all the necessary amenities for us to sleep in comfortably. It is relatively close to the city center, only a short walk and a tram away. The host was also such a lovely, kind-hearted person. I would recommend it to anyone looking to visit Ghent!

The room is exactly as advertised, quite large and comfortable. While the bathroom is seperate, it is for private use. There is a little kitchenette that you could make use of, albeit I just used the fridge. Renee, the host, is very friendly and welcoming and was available were any issues to arise, which they didn’t. The location, while about a 15-20 minute walk from the cathedral, is a short walk to Gent-Dampoort railway station if you’re coming by train. There is also a supermarket nearby, along with a really nice local pub and brewery within walking distance. The walk into the centre town is lovely with all the canals and is very pedestrian friendly, so I encourage anyone staying to take this option. Of course, you could jump on a bike as well and be there in 5 minutes. Overall, this is a great place to stay.

ItalyThe host has been very nice and available. The B&B is close to the city center, in a quiet area well server by public transports. The room was clean and equipped with a kettle and tea and coffe were available. I did not use the little kitchen but it seemed very looked after. Should I ever get back ti Ghent I would return to this B&B

United KingdomMy room was more like an apartment than a hotel room with 2 armchairs, a tv and en suite shower. Renee spoke good English and was really helpful. She messaged me a few days in advance to warn me about the Ghent LEZ charge. I could park my motorcycle directly on the pavement outside the front door. A pleasant 15 minute walk to the city centre.

Philippines1. When cars pass infront of the building, it feels not very comfortable inside the room. Because somehow the room shakes or the bed shakes every time a car passes in front. 2. There's an odd smell when you just got out from the room - smells like from dogs or cats, i cant figure out exactly. 3. Wooden stairs are very steep and it create crackling sounds when you walk, so you need to be careful for your own safety and be mindful not to disturb other tenants. 4. No available shampoo and/or conditioner.
1. Host is accommodating, she also helped me carry my one large luggage when i was about to check-out since the stairs are steep. 2. The ambiance of the room is very cozy. 3. I liked that they are energy conscious. Host made a reminder to turnoff/lower the heater of the room when not used.
