Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

RomaniaI have been around, have slept in fancy hotels and under bridges in my time. I can say that this place may not be for everyone, but I felt at home the moment I entered. If you are an artist, a dreamer, an adventurer, a punk, a zen monk, if you are looking for a place with authenticity or simply a place where you can rest and enjoy some true, honest vibes - then this is the place for you. Thank you, Serge!

HungaryDuring our week-long stay, the owner had a medical emergency and was away for a few days. This time, his little dog seemed confused and peed in multiple spots in the corridor. Even though they were partially cleaned not long after, some parts of the corridor smelled funky until the end of our stay. I hope this was a one-off; the owner will be well, the dog won't be confused, and the corridor will smell good.
I liked the spirit and the kindness of the staff. The room was comfortable. All the antic and artistic pieces all over the place made it extra special and nostalgic. The hostel reminded me of my first dorm at the university in Budapest, which was about 45 years old and felt quite "retro" inside.

LatviaAt first, when we arrived at the location it looked like a spooky abandoned place. But once we entered the 4th floor our opinion changed completely. A really artistic, beautiful home with friendly, welcoming and very flexible staff and this eccentric and funny owner who helped us with everything. A place for people who are seeking something off the standard track. Definitely a place with heart and soul.

United KingdomNothing, just make sure you read the blurb and you manage your expectations. I think the owner is very honest in representing the property. This is low cost accommodation in a bleak part of town but I loved it.
The Ghostel is quirky, location is good, the cat was cute and friendly. I would absolutely stay again. The environs is bleak heavy industrial or post-industrial and the accommodation is fairly basic but entirely acceptable and interesting. Good shower too! I’m an amateur photographer and loved the whole package. I missed the last bus and had to walk to the Ghostel and it was a very atmospheric walk.

Wow, what a cool, fun, artistic, place that was! I was completely surprised by the nice welcome and especially about the place where I stayed. I felt at home right away. Great if you travel alone. Very helpful. It is not an everyday place to stay and I like that. I was able to catch a concert in the evening. Lots of surprises in a save, alternative neighborhood. I was completely absorbed in the whole thing. Nice, lovely people around me without them knowing me. Great if you travel alone. I had an early flight, I only had to drive 15 minutes to the airport parking, so that was a bonus. Yes I liked this place. I would love to come back, Els

United KingdomI loved everything about this place, but it's not for everyone. The rooms are all in 4th floor and there's lots of stairs, the rooms are basic but with so much character everywhere else, it was everything we needed. Facilities are shared. If that sounds good then you need to visit.
Make sure you read the warnings, this is not a hotel.for everyone, it feels much more like staying over at your friend's house. If you're in to quirky curiosities and beautiful industrial architecture then this will become your home from the moment you arrive until the second you leave. And the friendliest cat I have ever met in my life lives here. It was a completely unique experience and I would love to return.

United KingdomA completely unique experience, not for everyone but a great fit for the adventurous and open minded. Serge is a kind, creative soul whose eccentricity and creative spirit is visible throughout this weird and wonderful place. You'll be in the midst of an industrial wasteland with access to a rooftop to look over this crumbling expanse. You'll have a warm welcome, interesting chats and access to some very nice facilities. I was expecting the journey there to be complex but it really wasn't, just ten minutes from the au-pont train station. Getting in requires a code and make sure you give the lock a good pull to get it open once inputted, then it's up the stairs (no lift) to enter Serge's wonderland. The toilets and showers were spotless and my room was really comfy, they've got great WiFi there and if you work online there's a decent workspace in the room. I imagine this would be an urban explorers dream. Next door there's a converted factory turned rock / punk / techno venue that I popped into and experienced some top tier Belgian metal and cheap beers. In the morning Serge made me a lovely breakfast and we had a great chat before I got a very affordable ride to the airport with his friend which he organised. Booking often gives you the dull, the mediocre and the forgettable places - this isn't it. Its different, it's a bit wild and wacky and it's in a very unusual place, but you'll never forget your visit.

I don't know which one is better, the Ghostel or the host... We (3 young adults) had an amazing experience here, once in a lifetime. We saw Serge's (host) paintings and art, had philosophical talks, shared ideas about the world and how it operates and so on... The Ghostel is unique, alternative and mysterious in many ways. The building represents the personality of the host (that's why it's so uniquely-funny decorated). You have a great view if you can go on the roof, a beautiful industrial landscape! Tip* if you want to discover Charleroi properly: rent the bikes!
