Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThis is a great guest house for a weekend stay. Longer stays will find the room too small. We visited during the Jazz festival, which may have contributed to low value for money return.
Cozy guest room, very centrally located in Ghent. The sparsity of the accomodation did not detract from the essential ammenities.

NetherlandsSome toilet cleaning products or perfume sticks would have been nice for the small size of the room when staying with a partner.
Central location, modern and comfy room, very helpful, kind and punctual staff. Included with coffee, tea, towels and shower products. Nice bed and pillows. The owner provides a list of amazing tips around Ghent for breakfast brunch diner drinks sightseeing and going out.

TurkeyI wasn't sure if I had successfully reserved the hotel until I arrived, likely due to a technical issue with booking.com. I was able to send a message to the property, but the reply they sent me wouldn’t open. I think I didn't receive the door entry code needed for check-in because of this technical issue. As a result, I spent some time in front of the hotel trying to resolve the problem. Fortunately, the restaurant owned by the hotel's owners was in the same building, so I went there and resolved the issue with the hotel owner. Even though I arrived before the check-in time and couldn't enter my room immediately, I was able to leave my belongings there and start exploring Ghent, so I didn't mind.
I stayed in a beautifully furnished, spotless, wonderful room. Additionally, the coffee machine in the room doubles the enjoyment of your stay! One of my favorite parts of my trip to Ghent was my hotel.

SpainNothing, everything was good
It is in a nice neighborhood, close to the center of Gent, 5 minutes from the Vrijdagmark, and 10 minutes from the Graslei. The rooms could be more spacious, but they are enough if you enjoy the city and only use the room for sleeping like us. Everything was clean, and we could leave our luggage on the last day while we visited the city.

NetherlandsRooms were rather small but not really an issue for us since we didn't have suitcases.
The location is great, owners are really sweet and the rooms look exactly like the photos. Air conditioning was also a great feature especially if you're going in the summer.

United KingdomNot a majo issue but it would have been better if the 2 singles beds were either pushed together or pushed further apart. The beds were separated by a very small gap which made it a bit difficult for my mum to get into the bed or for us to plug or chargers in. There was a strange, persistent smell. It wasn’t so bad that we need to do anything but just a bit annoying. A small diffuser or air freshener would easily do the job.
Just what you need for a short stay in the city! The room was very clean and had everything we needed. Staff were very attentive, we arrived early and they let us into our room. Also although we weren’t expecting it, housekeeping came on the second day and did a quick tidy up which was very kind of them.

United StatesInternet access through Wi-Fi was very limited. Without cell service or data access, it was very difficult to make daily plans when we had no internet, and it was impossible to contact the owners when their restaurant was closed.
Good location with easy walking access to popular Ghent attractions.

United StatesInstructions on using the air conditioner could be better. Couldn't get it to work properly, but the staff refunded a portion of our room fee which was a huge surprise and greatly appreciated.
We did not order the breakfast so we cannot comment on that, but the location was excellent. Within walking distance to what we wanted to see.

SwitzerlandI appreciated everything about my two-night stay at Edgar Guesthouse, and will most certainly return when I am in Gent again. The room was very comfortable and exceptionally clean. The refined and minimalist style, beautiful wooden furniture, and natural-toned textiles (and fine quality bedsheets, etc) give one a feeling of mental calm (and of being on holiday). Their restaurant around the corner, Edgar kaasbar, has a lovely selection of food and drinks. And I would recommend the Edgar’s breakfast basket. Also, the location is perfect! Very near to the Gent-Dampoort station and you can walk to everything from the guesthouse. Tip-top!

United StatesMy room was on the 4th floor and it was a walk-up; I had a very heavy suitcase and it was difficult to manage. Wish I got a heads up about this in advance. There was also no fitness center as it was a house; wish I had known that as I packed workout clothing.
Excellent location in the middle of everything. Exceptionally walkable, great amenities and excellent recommendations for local spots from the owners.

United StatesThe room is a little small for the price. Yet I traveled during a popular tourist season so it could be that the price was in line with other accomodations for the time of year.
I think the location overall was good. It is a five minute walk from the historic sites. It is also within a 15 minute walk to Gent Dampoort Train Station. It is far from the main train station but so is are the main sites anyway. The room was comfortable and air conditioned and the management was very responsive. This is a guesthouse as opposed to a hotel, which I have never experienced before, but was overall pleased with the experience.
