How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe accommodation is pretty and the area pleasant. The bathroom and beds were clean and there was a good selection of beers in the bar. The host kindly offered us some tinned food when we arrived in the evening, as there was nowhere nearby to buy groceries. The cheese shop nearby has a good selection of cheeses (but very limited opening hours). It's possible to walk to the Chouffe brewery in around 30 minutes.
The main issue we had, and one that means we would never recommend this place to anyone, is that there is no door to the en-suite bathroom. Therefore you have very little privacy while using the toilet and it's really impractical considering sound and smells would travel into the room. Luckily there was a separate, shared bathroom, leading into the kitchen, that we used, but that's far from ideal if there are other guests staying there at the same time. The room is quite dark and thus damp. Our towels were still wet the next day and some of our clothes got damp. There is also a strong damp smell in the kitchen cupboards. Although the host was polite, overall we didn't feel particularly welcome, perhaps because we were the only guests at the time. It seemed that our breakfast consisted to some extent of the host's leftovers, including a half slice of ham that got progressively smaller each day, only one pain au chocolat for two of us, and the same slices of stale bread making an appearance every morning. The coffee was barely enough for both of us and the eggs and bacon, although delicious, were rather sparse with only one egg and one rasher of bacon for each of us.
Hi Olivia, I'm very sorry to hear about your experience, but even more sorry that you didn't say anything while you were here. Most of your problems could have been solved if you had just let us know. The bathrooms are indeed not enclosed, which is clearly visible in the photos, but you can certainly use a different toilet or stay in the other rooms if the other person needs their privacy. It's an old building (built in 1734) with very thick walls and small windows. That has many charms, but also some challenges. The room you stayed in is one of two rooms where the ventilation is constantly on, on a low (eco) setting. This is generally sufficient, but we could have turned the ventilation up if you had reported that the room was getting too humid. We might also have to clean the pipes again because there's a blockage somewhere. You really should have reported this. Regarding the towels, I forgot to mention that you could find fresh ones in the wellness area. This is partly because you didn't feel the need to take the tour after your long walk upon arrival. If you had mentioned it, I would certainly have told you where to find fresh ones... The kitchen cabinets were recently completely treated and painted on the inside, but they are indeed antique cabinets, charming to some, not to others. We also apologize that you didn't feel welcome. We're not really present people at the B&B because we value privacy; with us, you have to be somewhat independent. Breakfast certainly didn't consist of leftovers, but it's true that we're frugal. Anything served cannot be served twice. So I don't serve overly large portions, especially if it's only for two people, but you can always ask for more. I also showed you where to find the coffee. I don't serve a full coffee pot for two people; I hate having to throw anything away, but you can still find coffee in the kitchen, both Senseo and regular. This is included in the full breakfast, and I showed you both in the evening and in the morning. Initially, we used the medium size eggs and then asked people how many they wanted. Most only wanted one. At some point, we decided to use the large size and always only give one. We think there's still plenty of choice. It's not always easy to estimate the amount of pastries when it's only for two people. Most people only eat one pastry, so I opted for two croissants and one chocolate biscuit. Apparently, this was the wrong choice for you. There were also baguettes, sandwiches, and bread, and no, not the same slices... but even that's divided into portions, and I always want to offer a variety... As you can see in previous reviews, most people here are satisfied, which shows that we really do try to get it right. Of course, there are only two of us for everything and we might not always see everything in time, so it helps if people let us know, preferably not through reviews like this; this doesn't help anyone...

Verified reviewEverything fresh for breakfast with lots of healthy choices. Loved the communal aspect of the breakfast table and the freedom to help yourself. Location was quiet and restful. Plenty of parking. Loved the honesty/trust aspect of the bar and games room (pool/darts/sauna). Lots of facilities to cook if you wanted to.
The only negative was the wifi that didn't reach our room.
Thank you so much for the lovely review. And indeed, in the room where you stayed not everyone has good Wi-Fi reception. If you come again, please remind me how important this is to you so you can be sure to get a different room.

Verified reviewNice rural environment, many places to relax quietly inside and outside. Very accommodating host, let us store our sandwiches in the fridge for the night (this was a last-minute one-night stop during a road trip). Clean comfortable room with nice attached bathroom, next to large shared kitchen. Bar upstairs next to common living room. Very nice areas outside with benches. Friendly conversations with other travelers. Eggs made to order were great.
Hard to snuggle on 2 single mattresses pushed together, but that’s probably necessary to keep flexible for families traveling with kids. Breakfast options were limited, but I think the amount one could reasonably expect from a home that only hosts a few rooms at once.
Thank you for the lovely review. We're sorry you didn't find the breakfast extensive; we personally believe it has everything you need for a good breakfast. Feel free to let us know what you missed.

Verified reviewA nice place in a quiet village in the countryside. Pleasant and comfortable room with good breakfast included. Quite affordable price as well. Location is perfect for hiking and / or cycling in the surrounding countryside.
Probably reachable only with your own transport.
Thanks for the nice review! 😊

Verified reviewI liked the place, in a small village, with wonderful nature around and one can easily hike to Achouffe in less than half an hour (5 min by car). The owners are very nice young couple, creating a relaxed atmosphere in the house. Breakfast was very good, and so was the room, too. They also have an infrared sauna in the house. I really enjoyed my stay there.
Thanks for the nice review!

Verified reviewDe Patuljak is a beautiful B&B in a converted farm. The room and common areas were so charming and the beds really comfortable. Wendy was very welcoming, and I wish we had more time to make use of the facilities on offer - board games, pool, darts etc. We were staying at De Patuljak to attend the F1 GP at Spa-Francorchamps and we’re so glad that we did - it was such a beautiful area and convenient to drive to the track. Parking was available on site free of charge too. We didn’t get to try breakfast unfortunately, as we needed to leave early, but Wendy had shown us where yoghurts and cereals were at check in, and there was a basket of fruit available in the dining room - I thought this was a really thoughtful touch.
It was a little warm in the room at night - a fan would be a good addition.
Thanks for the nice review!

Verified reviewThe very friendly and welcoming owners took good care of us and our stay. We were the only ones at the time, so we had the entire building for ourselves. Many facilities that we could make use of, and everything is very clean. The food they served (on request) was great as well.
