Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesWhile we really enjoyed our time at Sugar Bay, the presence of the three resident cats was a bit of a problem, especially at dinner at The Reef. As someone with a severe cat allergy, it was nerve-wracking to see them roaming freely around the restaurant—it made dining there uncomfortable. On top of that, having cats run around the table during meals felt unsanitary, as they shed a lot of hair. Additionally, for an all-inclusive resort, several times during our stay, there were no food options available, and we noticed the Bar & Grill kept changing their hours. If you missed breakfast, you were left waiting for 1-2 hours with no food until the Bar & Grill opened and the opening times were never the same from day to day, which made it inconvenient. A bit more consistency would have definitely improved the experience!
We were blown away by the incredible variety of mouthwatering food at every restaurant, with Umi and Sizzle definitely standing out as top-tier, 5-star dining experiences! The staff was warm, friendly, and incredibly attentive, and making sure the restaurants, pool, and beach areas were always spotless and inviting. Their attentiveness to detail really created a relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere throughout our stay. Also, the housekeeping team was fantastic—our room was always spotless and smelled fresh after every cleaning, making it feel like a true retreat!

United KingdomSome bits of the hotel like the gym and arcade could do with refreshing as look a bit tired and noticed a lot of the machines in arcade weren’t working.
Great private beach area and despite being on south of island, good for swimming. Good restaurant choices with buffet Reef restaurant and 2 a la carte options, Umi (Asian) and Sizzle steakhouse, although if you want to book both there is a B$50 / $25 surcharge. All the staff very friendly and helpful too, and really make for a pleasurable experience.

CanadaThe on-line photos of the property (surely taken with a wide-angle lens) make the beach appear much larger than it actually is. The man-made reef about 60m out from the beach protected the beach from heavy seas although the surf is still quite strong, which is typical of south shore beaches in Barbados. Wonderful, warm Caribbean waters!
The property is lovely and although it could probably benefit from an upgrade, it was super clean and staff went out of their way to ensure guests had everything they needed. Rooms are well-appointed; food was tasty and plentiful; entertainment was fun. This is a great place for a relaxing holiday, but for anyone looking for a party location, this is not your spot! The clientele is largely older, although there were certainly some younger guests, but it was just calm and relaxing and completely enjoyable.

AustriaI really don’t like the plastic flowers in the lobby. It would give the hotel an upgrade if there were real orchids, heliconias, birds of paradise and similar tropical flowers.
It’s a nice hotel right on the beach. Staff were very friendly and helpful. It was great to get off the plane and go straight into the sea for a swim.

United KingdomThe Beach was a bit disappointing compared say with Dover Beach. Limited watersport activities. Hate hotels that require you to find information on what is available by using app. Whilst the interior of our room was lovely we disliked the location. The room we booked was described as having garden and pool view. We did have a garden view in part but could not see the pool. Instead our dominant view was of a service area which was noisy with trucks pulling up regularly and was untidy with piled up mattresses and bins.
Room was very good and well appointed. Despite being a large and busy resort hotel there were plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas and quiet areas. Food was very good and there was plenty of choice. Evening entertainment was also good and finished at 10 so it was not too invasive. Great main pool. Good guest suite that you could use on departure day to shower and change. Comfy bed with quality bed linen and pillows

United KingdomThe only recommendation for enhancement I would provide is that the lower-level accommodations, while satisfactory, are somewhat diminutive in size. The more spacious accommodations are situated on the upper level, which is unfortunate as it would be a delightful experience to awaken and directly access the room's terrace, while also having the larger accommodations on the ground floor.
The location is ideally situated on a private beach. The culinary offerings are exceptional. The staff demonstrates utmost helpfulness and courtesy. The fitness center meets satisfactory standards. The pool and bar area are adequate, though they may experience challenges with sunlight during early mornings and late afternoons. The accommodations are pleasant yet modest in size and amenities.

It had been a very enjoyable stay in Sugar Bay Resort. Special thanks to Latina at the concierge who has been super helpful. All the staff in the resort are very friendly, including those in the concierge, restaurants, room services and on the beach. We told the concierge that the bathroom fan is not working, by the time we came back from the beach few hours later, it was fixed, super!! All restaurants are good, quite a lot of choices and foods are delicious. The resort is right on the beautiful beach. The sand is white and soft.
