Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

New ZealandWe stayed in 8 room mixed dorm, 4 x bunk beds. Felt a bit like the room was occupied by more long term permanent guests rather than short break holidaymakers like ourselves, which I felt meant the room was a bit messy and felt dark and cramped. Not all the beds had curtains for privacy and beds did not have a private plug socket so I couldn’t charge my phone on the first night as all the nearby plugs were being used. Showers were pretty basic. Great for a budget but if you have more financial flexibility somewhere slightly nicer or one of the smaller rooms with fewer guests here might be worth the upgrade.
Cheap for Cairns. Hostel events available on many days. Stocked kitchen with some free items like free pasta. No issues regarding feeling safe. Luggage storage room available for before check in or after check out times.

AustraliaThe rooms are full of clutter from people, I literally walked in and I tripped over a bag/foodbag/shoes? It was very difficult for me to pit my bags anywhere, even under my bed.
Good, clean, very helpful staff, and clean facilities

United StatesIt is right across the street from Gilligans, so party noise was expected, but very conveniently located within walking distance to everything.
Naomi is very sweet & accommodating to me, going above & beyond to help me get into a room there. So very much appreciate her going over-the-top to make sure i was well taken care of. I’ve stayed at various hostels throughout the world, and this one is very well maintained AND clean!

AustraliaI really didn't feel comfortable in the bathroom. My window couldn't be secured for safety. It needs a new latch.
It's probably the cheapest place in Cairns, so that's something. The bed was comfy and the linens were clean. There is a mini fridge in the private rooms, plus lots of mirrors, some hanging space and a power board. It feels a bit 'make do' and thrown together. There's no lifts, so be prepared to haul your suitcase up at least one flight of stairs, maybe 2. The bathrooms are uni-sex and there are 4 showers and 2 toilets on Level 2, where I stayed. It's all a bit cramped and open plan. With people just hanging around in the tight space, it doesn't feel private. While the cubicles have doors, there's no bathroom door. It is self-check in, which is fine, but there's not really staff on call. The window in my room did not have a latch to secure it, and even on the second floor, it could have been accessed from outside. I used a belt to tie it closed.

ItalyThe place is very small. All the communal area are very tiny, there is not much space at all to do anything or to chill. The rooms are ok. The bunk bed were I slept was moving so much for any little movements that the person behind was doing. Also, my room was just in front of Gillian’s so the noise were insane all night long. I understand it’s an hostel but there are way better hostels in cairns. I didn’t stay for my second night and I am not coming back.
The mattress is very comfy. That’s pretty much the only thing I liked. The staff is lovely too.

United KingdomWanna Stay, is honestly one of the best. I have never been to a hostel where everyone is so welcoming it’s like having your own little family. The room we stayed it was lovely had everything we needed and we felt very safe when we were here and had no worries at all. The people are great here and this is just what you want when you come to a new place. We both hope to stay here soon again.
