How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. The room was boiling hot (hotter than outside), we had a fan but between two it wasn’t enough. The light in the female toilets didn’t work and had a broken window which backed onto the smoking area which didn’t make it very appealing! The room is very basic and definitely what you pay for
The space is good value for money

On Booking.com, it is called Tin Can Bay Budget Accommodation. On Apple Maps, it is called Tin Can Bay Backpackers. In person, it is called Tin Can Bay Sleepy Lagoon Hotel. This made it very confusing to find, especially because there were cabins next door also called Sleepy Lagoon Hotel. There were no signs and so many doors through the pub to enter. They also didn't have our booking which we booked over a month prior. The staff were able to get us in but it felt like we were inconveniencing them. The light in the bathroom was broken. There was no cover on the light in the bedroom so there were exposed electrical wires.
Towels were provided and the linen was clean. Parking available

the room wasn't as the photo shows, was a bit dirty and noise at night. It was cold at the time, and the shower was with a few cold drops…. Clearly the accomodation isnt a priority to the business as the pub dowstairs, so i would say It is a cheap possibility in case you have no other choice.

Everything is dirty, no Aircon, noisy, kitchen is useless and dirty Can't recommend it at all.. yes it's super cheap but probably cause nobody wants to stay there which is absolutely reasonable. Not even worth 30$

Nothing, The connection has nothing to do with the photos, everything is very old, dirty, the bathroom is unusable, there is no hot water, when I turned on the tap black water came out, completely disgusting. Not to mention the noise and lack of respect from the guests who shout, swear and it is impossible to sleep.

Our stay was terrible. The rooms are very run-down. At three o'clock in the morning, the smoke alarm in the room beeped loudly every minute, probably because the battery was weak. This led to us having to sleep in the car. Nobody has responded to our complaint email for a month....

Even budget should do better. Room was smelly and loud. Only men on my floor, often drunken. The ladies restroom was tiny and old, only 1 toilet, 2 showers with a shabby curtain.
Staff was nice and helpful.

Out dated accomodation it's facilities upstairs. No atmosphere or feels.about the place.
The staff were great, the pub needs an upgrade. Especially the accommodation & upstairs areas. The hotel has so much more potential..A lot more love in the place could be amazing.

My budget and care factor
Shared bathrooms. Backpacker on a budget. Great location fir a quick stop over. Staff were brilliant. Zero issues in or out and the food was great.

The booked bedroom was not available despite the booking was confirmed. It was a shared bathroom. We have been told the booked bedroom has not been cleaned on time, which is not professional at all. The hotel is very dirty and noisy, the bedroom very small, bed noisy and not comfortable. Only the restaurant was ok. I do not recommend.

1. No Wi-Fi. 2. The entire floor has only one shared women's restroom (including two shower stalls separated by curtains). 3. The room's fan feels like it's about to fall off. 4. No air conditioner 5. Except the bed, the room is not fully cleaned.

Had a fun time.. staff are awesome, entertainment was fantastic and the food was absolutely delicious.. excellent place to visit... will be going back there again.
