How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Toilets were pretty grim, worse when someone cant clean up after themselves, maybes more checks on bathrooms/showers
Pool area was pretty good, sun loungers were a bit annoying, good location and shuttle bus is pretty good

The bathrooms were a bit dirty and some things were a bit broken like one of the shower heads and one of the toilets didn’t flush properly
The outdoor facilities were great and they offered so many services, like the shuttle bus, bikes, etc

Cleanliness - bathroom wasn’t too clean
Liked that you got your own kitchen utensils, walk in fridges were good, very close to the esplanade and only a short 20mins walk to the pier/into town. Rooms are small and basic - if you don’t mind that it’s good. I was ins 4-bed female dorm and early in bed, early up as I was here for GBRC - was not too noisy like in other hostels. Average guest age is between 20-30 though I would say.

Difficult to find space in the cold room for food storage. Showers were lovely and hot but there is no ventilation in the bathrooms so it was steamy and uncomfortable. This wouldn't out me off staying here again.
Good parking. Kindly provided regular shuttle bus runs to and from the night markets. Staff were professional and efficient.

I didn’t have any outlet in my room and the shower wasn’t super clean.
The location is good and I was upgraded so thanks for that.

The staff was lovely. We got a free upgrade from a 8 female dorm room to a private room. The individual cutlery sets were great. The hostel was absolutely huge, there were up to 300 people in the hostel at once and the kitchen was way to small. Everything got clean regularly but it did get dirty quick again because of the amount of people staying

The hostel is good if you’re looking for spend a few nights (as I did) but it’s so busy and the bedrooms pretty small, also the kitchen, in the bathrooms you can feel like to be in a sauna. I enjoyed my time there , the staff is nice and also the backpackers are friendly

Be warned: It’s a huge, labyrinthine 1950s-style concrete blockhouse — the kind of place nightmares are made of. And yet, the incredibly kind service, the amazing and entirely unexpected free upgrade (I’d booked a metal bunk in a 4-bed dorm and was spontaneously offered a private double en-suite at no extra cost), plus the super convenient location near the airport — making the Uber ride ridiculously fast and cheap ($6!) — more than made up for the “brutalist fever dream” vibes. It was the best night’s sleep I’ve had in six days — finally, a proper rest! Thank you. <3

Felt like far too many people for the size of the facilities. Kitchen was always overcrowded had to wait ages for a hob and people were always messy so was not nice but fine for what you pay. Bathrooms were always busy too had to often wait for a shower / toilet and due to no window in there they were super hot.
pool was great, shuttles into cairns centre from hostel were amazing so convenient. Room was a decent size, good aircon.

Too crowded. Tried to take the shuttle from the CBD and after waiting for one hour, I got left behind because there was no space left. Had to wait even longer. In the morning, cleaners use bleach on the bathrooms and it gives out the strongest chemical smell. Showers are in the same area as toilets so you'll end up with the odor of steaming human waste.
Really close to the airport, that is what I needed. Lovely ambience with many different nationalities. Events every night.

Good location and offers a free shuttle to the center. The travel desk was also very helpful and cheaper than booking tours directly with the tour companies. The bathrooms were clean.
