How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewLocation is perfect, walking distance to all popular attractions: piers step away; restaurants within 2 blocks; Wollies 5 min away. Room is clean and quiet. Perfect view! We saw the fireworks at the balcony!
Not particularly, but the pool can only be accessed through 3rd floor entrance, which need to walk downstairs; not safe when you need to bring a toddler down.

The staff was disjointed and did not know what the other staff had done regarding our account the previous shift so that when I checked out they had not taken a deposit when they said they had done so and added costs to the stay which we were happy to pay and even asked them the night before to pay but was reassured that the deposit would cover it. They then tried to charge me a fee for dropping the key off in the box as my flight was at 6.00am. When I went to bring back the key there was no one on the front reception desk at 3.45am... I waited for a few minutes but had to leave as I needed to get the hire car back to the airport. I paid $40 for breakfast and asked for poached eggs and twice they could not get the eggs correct.. I gave up after waiting over an hour and tried the scrambled eggs which were inedible. There was a very loud wedding going on the Saturday night the music was so loud we heard it on the 7th floor with the doors closed and could not sleep and at the end there was a huge fight that had broken out with the wedding party. Would not stay again.. not worth it. Shame really as I always wanted to stay at the Hilton Cairns.

We stayed at Hilton Cairns for four nights and were very disappointed. The hotel feels tired, outdated and poorly maintained, far from the Hilton standard we expected. Check-in set the tone: only one staff member was on the desk, already on the phone, leaving guests waiting with no offer of help with luggage. The lobby and exterior look dated and unwelcoming. Our room confirmed these first impressions. The fridge was broken and switched off on arrival, the balcony door came off its rails and jammed, and the carpets were stained and unclean. The décor is stuck in the 1990s and urgently needs refurbishment. Air conditioning was noisy, power points were limited and poorly placed, and there was no cable TV. Housekeeping was inconsistent, amenities were not always replenished, and corridors had a musty odour. Dining was a major low point. We ordered room service three times, and every meal arrived cold. The “chicken karaage” was little more than nuggets with mayonnaise and sriracha sauce. Breakfast was uninspiring, limited and poorly presented. The loss of Mondos, once a Cairns institution with charm, a great menu and a beautiful outlook around the poinciana tree and lawns, is a real blow. Its replacement, Sails, feels soulless — all concrete and no atmosphere. The facilities are equally neglected. The pool area is rusting, the fitness centre is outdated, and noise insulation between rooms is poor. Staff were polite enough but generally reactive rather than proactive, showing little initiative to assist guests. Overall, the stay offered very poor value for money. Other Cairns hotels, such as Shangri-La and the Crystalbrook Collection, deliver much higher standards at similar prices. Hilton Cairns may once have been a standout property, but it is now well past its peak. Without urgent refurbishment and a renewed focus on service, dining and maintenance, it no longer lives up to the Hilton brand.

Staff were rude at best, the beds (and cot for my child) were uncomfortable and ancient, the bar was soulless and unstaffed (they didn’t have any glasses), and the “pool bar” was dirty and closed. I know we came in winter, but I had higher expectations of an international chain.

The credit card fee charged for the stay was hefty!!! One mornings breakfast didn't have baked beans or tomatoes on offer, sounds petty but a moist addition to breakfast was preferred the previous morning ... For the price of breakie, it was a slight letdown with breakfast a rather 'dry' affair.
