How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewGreat location convenient to shops and restaurants and harbour view from apartment to watch the passing marine traffic.
Centralised building airconditioning to be kept running at all times due to humidity so apartments tend to be cold. Bring something warm to wear whilst inside apartment. Also, the free parking out front of the building is also used by people not staying at the hotel and is not always available. Alternative is to pay the Mantra daily cost for underground parking or meter parking in the street.

Verified reviewThe unit had everything we needed to be self contained. The king bed was so comfy. The view was amazing , gorgeous sunsets. Close to shops , restaurants, Coles, visitor centre, Darwin waterfront. All walking distance. The location & view made it special.
Probably for us having the shower in the bath. Just had to be careful getting out.

There was a high pitch whine constantly from the bedroom central heating. I had to play white noise sound to reduce its effect whilst trying to sleep TVs outdated.

Verified reviewThere was no breakfast as this was a private accommodation.
TV could be updated due to poor volume and information on bottom of screen not able to read lounge room. No umbrellas available, could do with a portable foldable clothes line. BBQ in the complex would be extremely good. Pool needs cleaning more than once a week, spoke to a worker regarding this as it at times look unappealing with algie growth and dirt.

Regarding the pool umbrellas, BBQ, and pool cleaning, those are managed by the hotel management for the complex. Verified reviewLocation was ideal, an easy walk to the foreshore and the city. Great views accross the bay.
It was way too cold with the air conditioner required to be on. There could have been spare towels supplied and blankets. A pod coffee machine at the very least would have been preferred over the stale instant coffee.

Bathroom & laundry not enough ventilation, unbale to open washing machine lid due to dryer fitted above it but not enough clearance. Mould growing in the laundry and paint pilling on ceiling above shower. Owner needs to spend money fixing this if they want to people to keep booking this apartment.

Verified review"I had a nice stay at the Esplanade Poolside living. The location was ideal, with easy access to popular attractions and dining options. I also loved the view from my balcony, which overlooked the ocean, we saw some amazing storms roll in. The apartment room managers were always available to assist with any requests and were quick to answers questions.
Although I enjoyed my stay at Esplanade Pool Side living, there were a few things that could have been improved. Firstly, the exhaust fan in the kitchen didn't work properly, which made cooking in the apartment a bit difficult. The fan would blow the cooking smoke around instead of sucking it up, which made me very cautious about using the kitchen as there is a 1400 fine if the smoke alarm goes off. This was disappointing, as one of the reasons I booked the apartment was to have the freedom to cook my own meals. Another issue was the slow wifi, which made studying and working a bit of a challenge. I can't recall if this was transparent on the booking page but I know it was noted in a message once you paid the security deposit so I felt it was a bit too late to cancel and find a new hotel.
