How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Bedrooms were filthy and good have done with a vacuum behind the beds and draws. Walls had marks on them as if someone had split a drink. The bathroom had fluff along the skirting boards.

Verified reviewOur host was incredibly disrespectful. When I called to ask for help and clarification about two cars being in our car spot, the lady on the line was condescending and plain rude. She was on speaker and the rest of our group listened to her in pure disbelief. I work in a customer facing role and I could never imagine speaking to someone like that, especially when they are paying you thousands of dollars. House was nice (could have been cleaned a little better).

Verified reviewA spacious apartment that was well equipped and perfect for a group of friends. Heating and hot water systems were decent for the snow season.
Though the place came with a high price tag, it was short on services. The communication was subpar, but we managed to let this slice. However, most shocking experience was that we had to make the beds by ourselves. Pillows were unacceptably mouldy and full of stains. Lucky that we only stayed here for one night.
Yes the property is in a good location and well equipped for the number of guests you booked in. We communicated with you on a regular basis, gave you access to the guest portal as all our guests get. From the time you made the reservation answering all you questions about the property and directing you to the correct people to be guided by them with all your questions that did not pertain to the property. We had at least 5 phone conversations with you to assist you with your questions. We provide high quality linen package for the number of guests booked in and all bedding is clean for each guest and placed on the bed space ready for you to make the beds with the high quality hire linen package. If you encounter any issues during the stay so we can rectify at the time it is always best to let us know at the time rather than in a review a month after your stay. We have checked through the cleaners report which includes photos of every single room from the day of your arrival and not found any evidence of bad bedding.

Verified reviewThe location is superb. Great comfortable cabin with complete kitchen.
Single toilet & bath for a 3 bedroom is not enough. Linens and towels are not included, you have to pay for it unlike in other accommodation around the area with provided towels and linens. You also have to put the bedsheets yourself, they just provided them in a bag and you take what you need and pay for it.
Yes we advertise there is 1 toilet and 1 bathroom for the property and the linen cost is an extra. We are extremely pleased you enjoyed all aspects of staying at drovers rest and rated us 10 out of 10 for comfort

You have to make your own bed that’s ok for me, but all linens left on the beds are super dirty with lots of stains. Have to remove them and put the sheets on after long day driving.

Verified reviewGreat location right in the center of Dinner Plain, plenty of space within the chalet, spacious kitchen that is pretty well equipped.
The cleanliness standard of this chalet was horrendous. Dust and cobwebs everywhere, soap scum in the soap dish from previous people staying here, hair on tiles in bathroom, grout dirty (see attached photos), we didnt even use the bathroom. Doona covers were dirty which makes sense as the instructions when leaving the property are to leave your sheets on the bathroom floor but not Doona covers. Pillows were yellow which is ok for us as we brought our own pillows but i would imagine not ok if you plan to sleep on their pillows. My wife is asthmatic so all the dust was not great for her too! Would not stay here again.

Not great communication with the linen and towel. There was a laundry bag at the front of the door. I didn't know that I supposed to change the bed sheet by myself and get all the towels from that laundry bag. No internet provided. Couldn't flexible enough to be able to check in 1 hour earlier. Before checking out, I have to clean all the plates and keep all in the correct place before leaving.
