Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaSonia warned about this, however we were surprised that we had no phone reception at all in White Cliffs, despite using the Telstra network (with another company). The public phone in front of the heath service (and opposite the primary school) was a welcome way to reach Sonya once we arrived in "town" so she could escort us to her Desert Hideaway and show us around the property. The internet at the Desert Hideaway worked really well though once we had checked in, making up for the telecommunication challenges we initially experienced.
We absolutely loved staying here at the Desert Hideaway, and we experienced what we think may well be the best of White Cliffs!! The dugout was beautiful, spacious, clean and very comfortable. It had everything we needed and more (including a speaker to play music). Designed to allow some natural light in, the dugout has a cosy ambience, even while you are mostly underground. After a week of rallying (for a Cancer Council fundraiser), we also appreciated the washing machine. Sunrise from the back door and the sunsets from the other side of the hill were spectacular. The communication from our host, Sonia was comprehensive, giving clear advice on staying locally (such as bringing your own groceries as supplies are very limited in the one general store). She also suggested things to do and gave interesting insights about life in White Cliffs. Sonia was incredibly warm, welcoming and helpful. We're so very glad we stayed at the Desert Hideaway.

Super cool dugout that used to be an old mine. Beautifully decorated. Super comfortable pillow top beds. Fully functional kitchen. Super large bathroom with hot water. Magnificent views in a nice quiet, private location. Sonia was a wonderful host, extremely helpful and went above and beyond to make sure our stay was exceptional. Thank you!

AustraliaJust be aware that if you don’t have a 4WD you will be fine to park at the bottom of the driveway if it doesn’t rain but if rain is forecast leave your car at the bottom
We really loved staying in the dugout, it was clean and comfortable and unique. Sonja was a lovely host. The desert hideaway was brilliant - everything we hoped it would be

AustraliaThe tin opener was missing -- given the selection at the General Store, a tin opener is pretty important!
Have stayed here before and was wowed by Sonia's genuine desire for her guests to fully enjoy White Cliffs, and in the stylish way she has decorated and furnished the dug out. Was wowed again. This time we made sure to stay two nights, to soak up the special ambience.

AustraliaThe property is faithful to the life of White Cliffs (and we loved that), so the kitchen and bathroom are functional but not fancy. Not necessarily a negative though.
Such a unique property. The underground dugout was really comfy for the two of us and offered plenty of space to relax and cook. The sunset and sunrise were amazing! Sonia was a great host and gave us lots of tips as well as a ‘noodling’ experience and tour around the fields. Would definitely stay again.

United KingdomNothing, it was a unique experience.
These dwellings created from disused opal mines are unique and very special. Desert Hideaway is comfortable and well equipped, and is a short walk from the basic shop and decent pub. White Cliffs is unlike any place I've ever been, you really have to see this place. Owner was very responsive when we had a small problem.

Sonias Dessert Hideaway was the perfect spot for a weekend getaway at Whitecliffs. It had everything we needed, was very clean and is so nice and homely. Sonia met us personally to give us the keys, show us around and tell us about the town. Sitting outside talking in the view was so lovely.

It was a wow! Truely a unique experience to be remembered and retold. The host is an impressive lady who turned a rough cave into an upmarket home. Her tour and stories were fascinating and admirable. Can’t give enough praise for this property and will recommend to everyone.
