How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Noisey construction next door started in the small hours of the morning. (no fault of YHA) but made for a broken nights sleep.
Room was big enough for the 2 of us. Bathroom area was tight. Tea, coffee etc needed refilling, but no problem getting supplies from reception.

There were a few spots that can be dusted off a bit. But the bed linen were really clean. The bathroom can be cleaned more often.
The big kitchen and the roof top. The dorms were pretty modern and the equipment was great!

Our room was a little cold due to aircon units not working in one part of the hotel but it wasn't too bad.
Lovely spacious room with a lovely view. The staff were so friendly, the cafe is fabulous and very good value. The location is awesome, you can walk, bus, scooter or train to anywhere.

There appeared to be no way to heat and/or ventilate the rooms. During the night, we heard trains passing by really closely and they were very loud. The hostel must be really close to the tracks. The space in the 4-bed room I stayed in during the second night was really small, meaning that we did not have enough room to open our luggage etc.
The property was very accommodating and allowed me to use the booked room one night later than planned, due to my flight being rescheduled. The staff was friendly, and I really liked the double room during the first night.

The sound of doors latching from other rooms were loud and often disturbed sleep, sometimes felt like it opened our room

Overflowing rubbish bins outside hostel.( Yes realise that it's a council issue but was gross - it would be horrible in summer). Noisy trains from the room I was in. No tv lounge area anymore; the 'wellness' area is not used much....??? No power points near bed....
Very clean kitchen. Relaxed atmosphere. I've stayed here many times prior. Female dorm. Curtains are great addition for privacy. View....still good despite the huge build blocking it!!! Super friendly staff. Thanks.

Noisy. Sound echos really bad especially at 3.00am when families are packing up to leave.
Location. Staff super helpful and nothing was an issue. Good facilities. Bed and pillow super comfortable and room warm. Easy to get around and thankful the renovations have finished.

It’s very modern but the pillows are pretty flat which gave me neck ache. The walls are quite thin but good set of earplugs will sort you out. Unfortunately the earplugs don’t work so well when someone in your room is screaming in the middle of the night. Don’t know what is wrong with people along the east coast but so many people seem to scream or shout in their sleep. The actual hostel is great, the facilities are nice and modern and clean, staff were very friendly and helpful and it’s in a nice quiet location but also pretty close to the city centre. Would stay again and hope for better guests 😂
