Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe only negative was the price. Salzburg it seems is a very expensive city to stay in. It was quite expensive, and although the building and decor were lovely, there were no additional inclusions.
This was a beautiful hotel, with wonderful eclectic decor. Staff were wonderful. Breakfast was basic, but accurately described on booking.com. Close to popular tourist areas and everything a walkable distance, (eg Mirabell gardens, old town etc) It was overall a great stay, but at Salzburg prices

AustriaWe had a lovely stay at this charming hotel. The staff was extremely kind, and the owner was especially friendly and helpful. Although we didn't expect any breakfast, we were pleasantly surprised to be served a real Italian breakfast with fresh cornetto and coffee, as well as a wide selection of teas and juices. The atmosphere in the old villa is full of character and history. The location is very central and there are convenient parking options directy onsite. One side of the hotel faces a busy road, but since our room had air conditioning, we didn’t need to keep the window open at night, which made for a comfortable and quiet sleep. We will come back for the next congress!

United KingdomNothing!
The hotel was in an excellent location. 10 mins walk from the station and a lovely 15 mins walk along the river to the old town. The room was really big, with good sized bathroom, recently renovated to a high standard and very comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Although they don't do a full breakfast, you can get coffee, tea and cold drinks with bread and pastries included.

United KingdomThere was nothing we did not like but would appreciate a hair dryer in the room, and maybe a kettle toake tea or coffee.
I had been at the hotel in the 1990s and wanted to return. It was great. If we come to Salzburg again we will want to stay at the Carlton for sure. The room, 102 is brilliant It is an easy walk to the Mirabell Gardens and then to the town, also close to the river.

AustraliaTastefully decorated boutique property with a very comfortable bed in a quiet residential location, one street away from the river, 8 minutes walk to Mirabell Palace, 15 minutes walk to the old town and 12 minutes walk to the main train / bus station. We are not big breakfast eaters so the included tea/coffee, bread and jam starter for the day was perfect for us and there are restaurants and cafes 7-10 mins walk away.

United KingdomApart from the breakfast issue, the only other niggle is that the reception isn’t staffed overnight and later in the evening you have to access the hotel via the back door, from the car park. Whilst this worked perfectly well and didn’t feel particularly unsafe, I never like having to access unstaffed hotels via a back entrance.
The hotel is comfortable, friendly and safe, with pleasant, reasonably spacious, clean and comfortable rooms. Our room was at the front of the hotel, with a pleasant outlook but was quiet and had effective air-conditioning. The reception area, with its quirky decoration and furnishings, provides a welcoming entrance and a good place to interact with the friendly and helpful management. Drinks could be purchased and consumed in the small lounge area or taken up to the rooms, although we weren’t aware of this to begin with. We were also loaned a kettle to use in our room. We were provided with a free public transport pass for the city, which was emailed to us after check-in. The hotel is located in a quiet, attractive street and the neighbourhood felt very safe and nice to walk around. There were a number of good cafes and restaurants nearby. Whilst the main HBf railway station was a 10-15 minute walk away, we were also only a few minutes walk from the Mirabelle Palace and a 20 minute walk from the historic city centre. I’m undecided about the breakfast provision. As the manager clearly explained, only a very basic, cold selection, plus hot drinks, is provided and included in the room rate, as you find in some budget hotels. Whilst this was sufficient to get you started in the morning if you didn’t want much, or needed to get away early, it was not enough to linger over or take much pleasure from. On our second morning, we went to an excellent nearby cafe, recommended by the hotel, for breakfast, which was excellent. I think perhaps it would be better to exclude the cost of this from the room rate and make it an optional extra.

We stayed for a couple of nights with our two big dogs. Everything was perfect! The room was large, beautiful, very clean and well-designed, making it a pleasure to stay in. It was hot, but the room had AC, and the ventilation from the windows worked very well. The bed was comfortable. The breakfast included delicious croissants and coffee. The location was convenient, with easy access to the train station and the old town, as well as a nearby promenade and a park for walking dogs. The receptionist was incredibly charming and friendly.

United KingdomI wish there was a little more on offer for breakfast.
The hotel is well located for all the lovely sights of Salzburg and within an easy distance to the bus and train stations. Perfect choice for anyone. The staff are welcoming and kind and our accommodation consisted of a lovely big room with modern bathroom with a walk-in shower. The villa is bright and cheerful, and the decoration is cool & trendy. Lovely touches throughout the hotel which smells delicious ! Definitely one to recommend.
