Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThe shower went from hot to cold and back randomly, but older plumbing is to be expected in a historic old hotel!
Beautiful historic property filled with period pieces to honor its past. The facilities are updated though for your comfort! We ate dinner in the restaurant overlooking the Danube and it was wonderful. Breakfast was amazing too. Each room in the hotel is a treat: the restaurant, breakfast room, lobby, and halls. The location is just steps from the church, the start of the trail up to the castle and the cruise drop off if you come by boat (which I recommend, we took the DSGG from Krems and continued on to Melk the next day).

United StatesThe shower water was either hot or cold. There was no in between and it could change without even touching the temp but these things aren’t unusual with old and historic properties. We didn’t mind but if thats an issue for you as a traveler, it might be a thing or it may have just been our room.
This was a historic old property. Part of it dated back to the 1200’s! Located centrally in the sweet little village of Dürnstein. The walls and hallways were filled with antiques and paintings telling of its heritage. The restaurant was wonderful and overlooked the Danube. There was also a lovely breakfast. The staff was kind and even accommodated us coming a day earlier than we’d originally planned.

AustriaIt would be great if the pillows and blankets were of higher quality for added comfort. Also, a soft-close lid for the toilet in the bathroom would be a nice touch.
Wonderful stay! The location is perfect – right in the heart of the city, close to everything. The service was outstanding, the staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent with a great variety of options. The hotel itself is beautiful and full of historic charm. Highly recommended!

United KingdomThe property does not open its restaurant on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, nor does the guesthouse Blondel next door in the courtyard. As hardly anywhere else is open during the evening on those days in Durnstein we were left with the grand choice of one place to eat after 7pm because most places had closed by that time and of course everyone was stuffed in there. It may be OK if you had a car so you could go to nearby villages instead, but the whole of Durnstein seems to be closed and silent by 6. Appreciate the hotel staff need time off but it could be better organised in July, and it felt like the hotel did not put guests first; it was a nuisance - they could have put on a limited menu or swap the closed days so people had other options nearby.
A beautiful building full of antiques overlooking the Danube. It was very quiet and peaceful. The room (8) was large, with high ceilings, overlooking the river. Although it was hot and humid, no aircon was needed as there was a breeze from the river. The room was well appointed with full size toiletries, a decent hairdryer and lots of hangers. Water bottles were replenished daily. The breakfast buffet was great, varied, and organised by friendly staff. The reception staff were knowledgeable about the local area with maps and leaflets about the vineyards in English. The pool was set in a manicured garden by the cloisters, also very peaceful. The hotel is well placed for walking, cycling and exploring the vineyards.

United KingdomSadly the only disappointment we experienced, was the terrace restaurant. It was quite expensive for what we had … fair enough in a lovely hotel, we were expecting that …. However we were hoping that we were going to experience something really special. The Goulash was just large chunks of rather bland meat in a rich gravy but without much flavour. (Not at all like the Goulashes we’ve enjoyed in other places in Germany and Austria which have literally been bursting with flavour.) The chocolate nut cake for dessert was nice, but accompanied by “synthetic” cream not fresh whipped cream. Surprising for an expensive restaurant. The Apricot Pancake was a bit disappointing too. It was literally a tepid, slightly underdone pancake rolled with apricot jam inside and a small scoop of vanilla ice cream. I’m pretty sure that a well trained Patisserie Chef should be able to rustle up something a little more imaginative with the same ingredients. It was nice, but sadly nothing special.
Breakfasts were lovely. Exceptional. So many choices and all fresh produce. There was nothing we could fault. Fresh fruit, meats and cheeses with fresh breads and mini pain au raisin or chocolate twists. Hot food included scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, sausages. Sparkling wine and coffee as much as you could wish for. The Junior Suite was absolutely delightful, overlooking the Danube, with a lovely big bathroom and separate WC. No air conditioning though, not even a desk fan. Thankfully though, we were able to have the windows wide open. The hotel has a beautiful outdoor swimming pool which is kept immaculately clean. Throughout the hotel there are interesting photos, paintings and artefacts dotted around. The hotel is conveniently located for shops and walks along the river. All in all it was a lovely stay - one we shall remember for a long time.

EstoniaIt is an old hotel, true to it's age so if you like this kind of stay then this is for you.
Location was perfect and Dürnstein is absolutely beautiful, would 100% return! Hotel was great, the pool was wonderful and the lounge area outside. We also dined in the hotel restaurant and the waiter we had (older gentleman) as absolutely great! A very quiet sleep. You can count on this not being a partying hotel so you'll get a great nights sleep. Fan also in room.
