Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomNo kettle or any cafe on site for a coffee or tea! Photos of room/hotel show a coffee cup. We had milk and teabags so just needed a kettle. Maybe a vending machine to make drinks would be helpful. Squeaky floorboards, could hear next door arriving and walking about, sounded like they were in the same room. Thankfully they didn’t arrive late and we had earplugs with us. Could be an issue for some people.
Location was good only 5 minutes walk to Abbey and old town. Good parking. Comfortable bed and modern room.

United KingdomNothing much.
A small hotel that occupies a small section of a large, old building that seemed very well-maintained. The room and bed were both large and comfortable. Breakfast was simple yet perfect to start the day (the coffee was delicious!). There is plenty of parking and it is just a 10-15 minute walk from the monastery and the centre.

HungaryThe bldg is a bit like a hospital and overlooks a cemetary. Neither is really disturbing, just surprising. The floor makes cracking noises. Nonetheless one feels at home.
Large room, nice bathroom, great location. Very good breakfast.

United KingdomGreat B&B in part of a large former seminary building, and a mere 10 minute walk from Melk centre and the Stift complex. The good sized room (very high ceiling!) was comfortable and simply furnished, and was extremely quiet even though our room was at the front of the building. Breakfast was very good, and particularly fun was the wine/beer garden operated by the hosts in the early evening (weather depending). Overall, this was an excellent choice of accommodation in this very pleasant and interesting town.

RomaniaDifficult to find something to mention here as possible improvement. We stayed in Pension l'Etage for the second time now, even if in transit we preferred this place to the standard hotels.
Everything at Pension l'Etage is to be mentioned here in positive note, with a plus for the attention to details in designing the rooms, creating the general atmosphere of french finesse including at the breakfast set-up. Breakfast of really fine quality and assortment.

IsraelThe difficulty in finding the property
It wasn't easy to find Pension l'Etage. It shares a building with many other institutions and was not very clearly signposted. Once we did find it all was good, the room basic but clean and quiet.

United StatesThe pension is on the 3rd floor of the building and a little difficult to find at the beginning.
The location is close to the main town. The service is great. It is a very easy check-in and check out. The breakfast had lots of variety. The room is spacious with a modern shower and a comfortable bed. The place has a private place to park bikes.

Lovely big modern room, great shower, close to town. Unusual set up in big old building that is shared with other businesses, but we loved it - very different. Huge Carpark. Easy self check in (once you read the email sent). 😊

United StatesThe “hotel” was in an office building of sorts. It was fine, but knowing we were staying in that type of lodging in advance would have been helpful.
The location was close to everything we wanted to see - the Abbey and the old town - so we could walk once we parked at the “hotel”.

United StatesWe loved the idea of the pension in the older building, but one drawback was that the floors were a bit creaky. This was especially noticeable at night, both from the neighboring room's floor creaking and when using the bathroom during the night trying not to wake up one's partner.
Robert and his staff were very attentive and accommodating! The rooms were clean and beautiful, and the whole pension felt bright and restful. The breakfasts were also delightful!

AustraliaPlaces for clothes storage was a bit limited in room 5. The addition of shelves or drawers would be helpful.
The Continental style breakfast was enhanced by local specialities. Host Robert was very welcoming and friendly. We were allowed to leave our bags in his keeping as we had arrived before check-in time. The room was clean and spacious with stylish decor.
