How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewGreat location in the old area and right by all tourist sites but still quiet. When we realised how awful the place was and called the mananger, Herbert, he turned up promptly and sorted most things. It would have been awful if he hadn't been so nice and helpful, but he was very surprised that we expected better and told us that travellers usually have coffee pods, laundry, and dishwash detergent with them. Really??!!
We had a train delay, and they wanted 49 Euros to book in after 6pm. The check-in was confusing and sressful as the person spoke zero English. She also didn't give us the voucher that allows free travel on public transport. We also had to sign an acceptance to pay 490 Euros if we lost the key. There was no mention of this in advance. Only 2/6 light bulbs in the lounge worked, and bedside lights didn't go. Advertised as with coffee machine, dishwasher and washing machine but nothing to use them with. Finally gave us coffee pods but machine didn't work anyway. Shower drain was blocked, and we had to get out before water got over the top. The kettle was so full of lime scale that there was a scum on our tea. All this cost us twice what we paid for far nicer places in Vienna and Berlin.

Verified reviewThe apartment was very conveniently located. I loved having both a kitchen and washer.
The internet only worked in the living room. I could barely get any service in the kitchen or bathroom.

Verified reviewGood apartment close to old town, cafes and restaurants. Good facilities and nice big living area. Can walk to all main sites.
The weather was very warm whilst we toured Salzburg. No air-conditioning or fans in apartment.

Verified reviewThe location was very good.
It would be nice to have a fan because when it is very hot there wasn't any air movement in the apartment.

Verified reviewIt is one of the apartments in an old building. One of the charming streets of Salzburg. While it was close to the old town, it is on the other side of the Salzach river. One may use the apartment for just transit. We were here for 5 days but there is no lasting impression of the place. It has cooking utensils and crockery for a family. The bed was comfortable.
While the amenities were just as listed, one hoped that some supplies for a 5 day stay would be refilled. No sugar, tea, coffee but Oregano was there which too perhaps was left by previous occupants'. No soap, shampoo in the bathroom. No washing powder, dishwasher detergent. Dishwashing liquid was provided though so that we could leave the utensils clean. We had to stock everything to make our stay functional. The shops here close early so that wisdom dawned upon us a day later. We realised staying next to the train station would have been more suitable as public transport is fantastic. The properties in Salzburg have to provide staying guests with a transport mobility pass which takes care of most of your day excursions as well. So this location does not provide any advantage. The biggest negative for us was the cleaning fee of 90 euro charged for a booking of 5 days. We wish to bring to the attention of booking platforms as well that such charges are simply ripping off the customer when there are hardly any cleaning supplies, no replacement of linen, and no removal of garbage during the entire stay.

Verified reviewThe apartment is in an amazing location and is very quiet. Even though there isn’t air conditioning, it was very comfortable because it backs onto a cliff. The bed is comfortable and the kitchen is well stocked with dishes and pots and pans.

Verified reviewBeautifully decorated art deco style apartment. Excellent location.
On arrival had to sign an agreement to pay €400 in the event of a lost key. Apparently the barrels would have to be replaced. How anyone would know where the key came from I have no idea. Have never lost a key but found this a bit off putting regardless. It was a little cool at times, a couple of blankets for the sofa would be good on cool evenings. Heating in kitchen came on for a bit early morning and on last rainy day, I imagine, thermostat controlled by building? It is requested not to hang washing ( because of dampness) but rather use the drier instead. I never managed to get it more than uniformly damp despite Google translate. Have since discovered some machines dry better in Europe while others leave it steaming. Not an issue I’m sure if just over from home for a few days but when on the move it is.

Verified reviewExcellent location. Set away down a quiet lane with next to no traffic because it is so narrow. Very straightforward transfer from the airport by local bus. Owner met us at the secure foyer early before the apartment was ready to let us drop our bags off which was very kind.
Bed was a little soft but that was just personal taste. No interesting views from the windows but this didn't bother us. No parking but we didn't need a car and the buses are excellent and take you further afield if you need to.

Verified reviewIt met our every need. Good comfortable bed, hot shower, great, fully equipped kitchen, gorgeous dining and lounge area, able to wash clothes. Centrally located to explore all of Salzburg.
The drying function on the washing machine wasn’t very warm at all. We struggled to get our clothes dry.

We organised for a 2pm checkin but we couldn’t get in for a little while as the cleaner was still there. No extra things such as spare rubbish bags or washing powder.

Verified reviewUnbeatable location! Right in the middle of shopping, bars, and restaurants. The host was VERY friendly and the apartment was charming (dates back to the 1600s) with elevator, kitchen, washer/dryer, and separate living room. This was the most affordable option in the area and I can’t believe the deal we got when booking. We stayed in apartment 1. I can’t wait to stay here again. Also, you cannot drive up to the apartment street. I highly recommend parking at Mirabell parking garage. It has poor reviews online, but honestly it was clean, spacious, and convenient (7 min walk to the apartment). Get the PCard from Contipark online for CHEAP parking (8 euro per 24hrs)!
The WiFi did not reach to the bedroom, but everywhere else was fine. There were coffee pods but they did not work for the traditional style coffee maker. The kitchen was fully stocked with cookware and serveware, but you’ll need to bring all basic edible items (like olive oil and seasonings). My husband is 6’5 and was too tall for the shower, but he managed fine! All of these things were just minor inconveniences as we spent most of our time out and about.

No coffee pods for the machine and you can't find pods that fit it at the supermarket. Given the price maybe leaving a coffee pod or a tea bag or two would be nice.
