Our 2-night stay at Maasai Eco Boma & Lodge in Makuyuni was truly unforgettable — a genuine highlight of our family’s trip to Tanzania. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed with a traditional Maasai dance, setting the tone for an enriching cultural experience.
The staff were exceptionally friendly and made us feel part of the community from the start. We took part in a morning walk with our Maasai warrior guides, toured the local village and the school project. Meeting the principal and having a guided tour from the vice principal — including a stop in a classroom full of bright, engaging children — was a real privilege.
We also had the chance to try beading, meet the local healer, watch a fire-making demonstration, and enjoy a wide selection of delicious local dishes. One evening we dined under the stars, followed by energetic Maasai dancing — an experience none of us will forget.
Staying in a traditional boma gave us a unique glimpse into the Maasai way of life, and we came away with a deep appreciation for their strong sense of community and cultural pride. This was not just a stay — it was a meaningful connection with an extraordinary culture. We can’t recommend it highly enough!

The opportunity to stay in the middle of the wonderful Tarangire NP is really a privilege. The camp has been designed with both comfort and closeness to nature in mind. The rooms are extremely comfortable and the communal spaces are designed to make best use of the wonderful location. The staff are incredibly helpful and welcoming, and we enjoyed discussing the wildlife with them around the campfire. And to wake up with an elephant really just a few metres from the tent was unforgettable.
With Tarangire National Park reachable in a few steps, Tarangire Sopa Lodge provides accommodation, a restaurant, a garden, a shared lounge and a terrace.

This hotel is a little oasis in the wilderness of Babati. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, which should only have been one night, but because it was so nice we extended to two. The hotel is very clean especially the grounds which are exceptionally well maintained, with freshly painted concrete safari animals dotted about. These animals are made onsite. The swimming pool was excellent too and very clean. It only has three sunbeds, but that was fine as only my wife and I used the pool. We had it to ourselves all day as there were very few guests at the hotel. There is a well stocked swim up bar with half a dozen underwater stools. Our room was fine, clean and tidy with air conditioning and a fan although we didn't use them as the room was in a shady area. We were in room Rhino three. The bathroom was fine with toiletries and a shower. The shower, as in a lot of the reasonably priced hotels, doesn't have a shower curtain, so the whole bathroom floor gets wet, but that's a small price to pay for staying at this lovely hotel. The room is cleaned every day and the toiletries and bottles of water are replenished. The restaurant is very good but be prepared to wait an hour after making your order as the food is freshly cooked. The all inclusive breakfast is fine but the choice is not the largest. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and were sorry to leave.
