Arieseni is one of my darling ski resorts, since my youth, when it was just a village with a snowy hill closeby. Today is a tourist destination in Transylvania and Apuseni Mountains, a hub for both day trips or weklong backpacking hikes. There are caves and canyons to visit, horseback rides, steam train adventures and just breathtaking beauty landscapes. There are plenty of family restaurants (if you are looking for a McDonalds, you're in the wrong place), with delicious local food (try the trout, the polenta or the thick gulash soup). Visit the unique caves of Scarisoara (the world biggest ice cave) or Bears Cave, where 141 cave bears died 17000 years ago) or ride the vintage steam train along the Aries Valley.Guest review byIoanCanada
