Great room overlooking the gorge. Spacious balcony with outdoor furniture. VERY comfortable bed. Large room and large luxurious bathroom. Mini-bar fridge in cupboard and good hanging space. Lots of on-site free parking (but it was out of season). Breakfast was included and it was simple but perfectly OK.

Montalma is an absolute gem of the beautiful area of Monchique! We felt straight like home when arrived. Beautiful place surrounded by trees and flowers with a stunning view over the southern coast. You just sit at the terrace or balcony, drink your coffee or tea, breathe an amazing fresh air filled with aromas of forest trees and flowers, and enjoy the view. Also, I should say a great thank you to Margarita, she's an amazing host! I've never had better vacation experience - it was like staying at a good friend's place! Everything was excellent, lovely and beautiful during our stay.

What a charming and beautifully decorated riad (Moroccan style guest house)! The courtyard had a small pool and a colourful seating area in which to relax. Our room was spotlessly clean and overlooked the courtyard. The bathroom was both modern and tastefully appointed. Drinking water and wine were provided free of charge in the room for us to enjoy. The location was perfect for walking to all the sites in Silves. Breakfast was served at the pretty and ornate Cafe Mosaiko, about 2 minutes' walk away. Jane was a wonderful hostess: she made us feel very welcome and served us a tasty breakfast.

I walked from Pedralva to Vila do Bispo -- about 8 miles.

I walked from Pedralva to Vila do Bispo -- about 8 miles. A nice in-land walk with a few steep hills, and no provisions (stores, cafe's, etc.,) along the way. Vila do Bispo is a nice little town with a number of very good restaurants, and even an Aldi's. There is a very good Vamus bus connection to Lagos which I used.

There isn't much to see in Raposeira, but it is well placed to visit some very nice beaches and if you are cooking Lidl is just down the road. Raposeira has a few places to eat and drink but nothing fancy or expensive.

A beautiful, mediaeval town with a castle and lots of local history. Fantastic restaurants of all kinds, the local residents are exceptionally helpful and welcoming. Don't come here for a wild time, it is several miles from a beach but you can easily get there by car or taxi, and there are no night clubs here either. Just go for the culture, countryside and the wonderful food and wine. NB>>the castle and cathedral are up a very long and steep hill with slippery, cobbled narrow roads, so consider this if you are of restricted mobility.

Alcoutim is a beautiful town, very friendly and calm.

Alcoutim is a beautiful town, very friendly and calm. We ate at restaurants BH and O Contrabandista which were both exceptional. You can take a small boat 5 minutes across the river to Spain to another small town. There is a cool zip wire for 20 euros which crosses the border back to Portugal. There is lots of 14th century history in both towns. Legend says it’s a place where contraband was smuggled during battles. The overall peacefulness of the place is very relaxing and pleasant.

A small town with alot of character.

A small town with alot of character. Not sure if younger crowds would enjoy the peace and quiet but they certainly would like the prices for accommodation, food and drinks in the area. Worth the drive/bus journey to stay here and simply travel to the beaches. The buses are all equipt with aircon and run very smooth.

The welcome by the staff was exceptional and I was made to feel comfortable and as though I was an important person to them. The bar area was lovely and the restaurant for breakfast was really nice too. The room was comfortable and cool during the heat of summer and the bed was very comfortable too and allowed me a very nice nights sleep. The atmosphere in the bar was vibrant and the seating outside was peaceful. I didn't get a chance to use the swimming pool but was shown to it by the staff. The car park had plenty of room for my car and felt very secure. Everybody was really accommodating and friendly and I enjoyed the chat with the staff about football over breakfast.

Amazing hospitality, convenience and attention to detail.

Amazing hospitality, convenience and attention to detail. Staying at Casa da Tita in Salir gives you access to all that the Algarve has to offer from sea level to the highest peaks. Ask about the Quinta da Tor winery tour ...

Great place to stay. Nice restaurants around. A lot of nice beaches and activities could be found around. A little windy, just about right - not too cold, not too hot. It would be best if you travel by car.

Monchique is a beautiful region, be sure to travel all around it to see all the beautiful sites and areas. Fresh air in the mountains and a very peaceful area. A great place to hike and take in the views. Don’t forget to visit the convent and take a stroll through the old village. The thermal spa resort is a nice visit as well. If you travel west you will find some little towns with amazing views.
