Definitely in our top three of places we have stayed while touring north and South Island. What an experience, my first star bath! I had high expectations from the information when booking but it was far beyond them. Lovely to see the Weka pecking about in the mirning.

When we first entered the garden we were pleasantly surprised how spacious it was. You enjoy real privacy in the gatden en well equiped large kitchen. At night when the garden lights are on it is really enjoyable to use sauna and listen to the sounds coming from sea. Very romantic.

The cottage is is a lovely house in a very quiet, beautiful location. The house contained all we required for our night stay, was beautifully decorated and was well supplied with indoor activities (board games, books, music system etc). We really enjoyed our night here and could easily have spent more time. Five of us were easily accommodated and comfortable. The house was also easy to locate off the main road (it is adequately sign-posted) and gaining entry to the house was easy. There were trails to the river which we would have explored if we had seen them in time! We would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting a comfortable, relaxed night's stay out of town.

Great location. Superb accommodation and outstanding decor. Fantastic stay amongst the flora and forna. Only wish we had stayed longer. Would definitely recommend. The outside balcony on the first floor sipping a glass of wine amongst the trees made it an outstanding stay. Could go on for ever. Everyone don't hesitate about booking this accommodation. Many thanks Punakaiki Tree House. This will stay in our memories forever. Jan & Gerwyn

The Pancake Rocks is a must to see.

The Pancake Rocks is a must to see. Pathways and viewing stations wonderfully laid out with the stone walls and the natural landscaping. Fantastic views from so many angles and advantage points. The day we were there the sea was coming in strong and fierce so we saw the holes blow and the sea water spraying up.

Charleston is very small town with old history from the gold fever time. Very quiet place. There are some activities as underground caves. You can also visit near old gold mine or to do short beach walk.

The perfect location for a quiet, peaceful stay right in the middle of the Nikau Forest!. The beds were comfy and there was everything you needed in the kitchen. We stayed in Ruru Lodge, plenty of room for me and my friend in our bedroom. A good size lodge which is a little tired, the bathrooms need an upgrade. Really good value for money. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

Barrytown itself is small but there is a good tavern, All Nations, where you can get a meal, drinks, and friendly local company. It's worth booking a tour with Golden Sands Horse and Wagon Tours for some history of the area and an old-time experience. An easy drive north from Barrytown to Punakaike and Trueman Track or South to Greymouth.

Location and completely and excellently equipped facility.

Location and completely and excellently equipped facility. This isn’t Charleston, only as crow flies nearest town by road is Westport. Go to Cape Foulwind following seal colony signs and when you hit the sea and right is to the seals…. Turn left and follow Okari road for the full length beyond tarmac on to gravel stretch and Linga Longa is there at the end of the bay. Wonderful place for a relaxing, private, perfect West Coast experience. We prepared food rather than drive to eat out. Complete kitchen and BBQ etc. and views to please the eye.

Nature at its best!

Nature at its best! We visited the Pancake Rocks twice, once at low tide and once at high tide, to see the contrast. It took us about 45 minutes each time but it was worth it to us. Wish we could come back in a million years to see what has disappeared due to erosion, earthquakes, etc. There is also a very good restaurant--Punakaiki Rocks--in the village, which has interesting decorations and tasty food.

I wanted a cheap overnight stay close to my route, more comfortable than sleeping in the car. This was perfect. Very basic cabin with a bed, table and chairs. Toilet and showers were shared but clean and close. There is a tavern 5 minute walk away for lunch and evening meal. I had breakfast in West port a 30 minute drive away as I was on the road early.
