Terschelling is part of an island chain in The Netherlands known as the West Frisian Islands. After you cross the shallow tidal flats of the Wadden Sea, the island offers camping, cycling and nature walks in a unique landscape that includes the Boschplaat salt marshes and sand dunes.
Amazing wide beaches, charming little villages and restaurants and the beautiful natural harbour are some highlights of Terschelling. The lighthouse in Brandaris is a well-known landmark on the island.
Its wild North Sea location caused many shipwrecks over the years and has benefited an otherwise almost treeless Terschelling. Subsequently, many houses were built using the masts of sunken boats washed ashore!
Visitors swarm the island creating a wonderful atmosphere during a very popular summer event called the annual Oerol Festival. It features a diverse array of open-air theatre acts, buskers, visual art displays and live music performances.

This was our second visit to Terschelling.
This was our second visit to Terschelling. So much to see and do! We already have a list started for our next visit. We loved biking (and trying out a tandem!). Next time we would like to see if the kids can catch any crabs and try taking a boat ride. Several yummy take out options. We visited the areas on the island where grandparents were born, lived and died. We enjoyed Midsland so much and West Terschelling as well. We didn't have time to visit other areas as were only there for two short days! It was a two day visit in our 12 day travel. Our two days on Terschelling were the highlight of our trip. (We really enjoyed the ferry each way as well! We got to see the sunset on our trip to the island and the sunrise on our return trip to the mainland. We would highly recommend a visit to all of the island. We hope to return!Guest review byOverman - 8.0

Beautiful beaches, offering deep water horse riding,surfing,all kinds of bootcamps. Neat clean beaches,dogs allowed. But you need a bike,you’ll drive 4,3km to Midsland where you find 2-3 shops,grocery store + nice restaurants or bars. Or you ride back to Terschelling where the ferry doks.you’ll find a beautiful bigger village:shops,bars,restaurants,hop on a boat to see Seagulls in their natural surroundings. West aan Zee is a great place to spend some quality time.
West aan Zee is a great place to spend some quality time. Especially before and after the summer season. In-season it tends to become a bit crowded. Terschelling is one of the most beautiful Dutch islands and West aan Zee is just one of the great beaches that can be found there. Must sees are the "Koffiemolen", an old windmill where you can drink great coffees and eat nice "cranberry" pastries and of course the beautiful lighthouse "Brandaris" in the West Terschelling village. Don't forget to drink a great cocktail at Flaman, the cafe-restaurant at ons the Brandaris square.Guest review byAnonymousNetherlands
