Excellent breakfast; the hotel restaurant, Kitchen Vibe, is first rate. A bonus: there is a Buddhist wat across the street. The monks come by between 4:30 and 5:30 every morning to be fed by the faithful in front of the hotel; when finished, they stand and chant softly for a short few moments. A moving sight. If you prefer not to be woken up though, ask for a room at the back. A short walk to the night market.

    Lovely clean spacious hotel room with great view over river at back. Ate at restaurant for evening meal which was good. Staff very attentive and helpful. We chose this hotel due to closeness to border into Laos. Staff arranged their hotel minibus van to Thai border crossing but can do trips to Laos as well. Quiet location which suited us.

    The location, staff and facilities were excellent. Room and bathroom were clean and bed was big and comfortable. AC was good. WiFi a little weak and slow for sending attachment photos but it worked ok We were given a nice large king size bed,, it was comfortable but we actually booked a twin beds for personal reasons.

    The hotel, once big, modern, well-equipped and expensive, is still big and not that cheap. There were enough facilities for me, however. And the staff is perfectly trained, which makes every small talk a pleasure. The breakfast is plentiful, with made-to-order soup, and tasty. I would definitely recommend it to anybody.

    Wonderful staff who were always there to attend to our every single need. The hotel is situated away from the centre, but taxis are cheap. Although there is traffic outside, once inside the hotel it is perfectly quiet. Large pool in a lovely garden. Very good food for lunch and dinner.

    Vientiane is a good place to have a night in between...

    Vientiane is a good place to have a night in between travelling via the trains. Sticky fingers is a nice cafe to eat and you can get around easily on tuktuks there. Recommend only a day as Luang Prabang is amazing and you won't want to leave.

    Sleepy small town by the river, relaxing if you come from a large city like BKK or VTE. Rent a bike and take a tour along the river. Don’t forget to visit the spectacular Buddha park (sister to the Vientiane version). It is a good stop to relax a few days on your way to / from Laos.

    Wonderful area to explore, many Temples, Patuxay Victory Monument is not far away and great at sunset to early evening when water fountain puts on a great light show. Riverfront night markets fun park plenty of choices for food.

    Living in Udon Thani place makes for an easy trip to Laos to feed my gambling bug. Bit far from Downtown Vientiane, but there are numerous transportation options to get in to town from the border/hotel. * No fine dining places near-by, thus the need to travel in to Vientiane.

    Nice and clean.

    Nice and clean. Local Food at the night markets along the Mekong is relatively expensive. I suppose we were at the tourists food stalls. As for the tok tok, whilst there are prices printed on a laminated A4 it appeared high and open to negotiations. Can Laos tourist authorities ensure fixed reasonable prices. Bus fares are very reasonable and affordable. However there appeared a big discrepancy for bus fare from Vienteine Bus station to Friendship bridge (longer journey and inexpensive) compared to Bus service crossing the bridge which is so much shorter journey but so much higher in fares.

    It was bigger than I thought it was.

    It was bigger than I thought it was. Many temples further up in the mountains were definitely places to add to your list. I loved the views from the Mekong across to Laos, the markets in the town by the river, the night market by the station and of course all the temples were great to visit. I stayed at the Park and Pool resort which had great service, rooms and a nice pool.

    30 years ago I was last time im Vientiane.

    30 years ago I was last time im Vientiane. In the meantime it has become a monster of roads, concrete and glass -fronts, just like Bangkok it has now emerged into a meaningless Chinese city.: Asians want to be Europeans who came down from Tibet many years back.

    My husband and I stayed the night in Nong Khai on the way...

    My husband and I stayed the night in Nong Khai on the way from Bangkok to Vientiane and we're glad we did. We took the day train because we wanted to see some of the countryside. We didn't have a plan for crossing the border and getting to Vientiane so we chose to stay over night in Nong Khai - just enough time before noon checkout the next day to have a leisurely dinner, walk along the river, and consult our hosts on the easiest way to get to Vientiane. That turned out to be a taxi to the bridge, a bus across the bridge and a taxi to our hotel in Vientiane. Couldn't have been easier.
